My new Swissgear Backpack
on: January 02, 2012, 07:48:22 PM
On Friday, the duffel bag that I'd been using for the past couple of months tore and finally gave up the ghost. It was the third cheapo bag that I'd gone through in a year, and I decided that I was going to finally get myself a decent bag. At the local Target I found this for $46:

Swissgear City Pack by Wenger. This is a bit smaller than Wenger's laptop packs, but I can't seem to find dimensions on it anywhere. There are two main compartments, each with dividers and a number of pockets inside them. The front pocket has a detachable key ring inside.

On the very front of the bag there is a small zippered pocket. On each side there is a pocket, one zippered and one that is elastic mesh. The zipper one I've found is the perfect size for my MP600 in its sheath, and the mesh one fits a water bottle quite nicely, and also works well with an umbrella. The straps are nice and comfortable, and the carrying handle on top is actually a steel cable riveted onto the pack. The bag itself is made in China, and is very well put together. The material and construction is nice and sturdy. It even has a 10-year warranty! For what I need it's perfect, and I'm very happy with this purchase. It looks like it will serve me well for a while to come.
There's no such thing as "Too pretty to carry".  There's only "Too pretty NOT to carry"...... >:D

I've been carrying this pack almost everyday for nearly the past year (in the blue/grey version).  I've been very pleased with it and I recently bought a second one in black/grey, just like yours.

Pros:

- the organization is great, with a good array of pockets
- both the external and liner materials are tough as nails and wear very well
- the pack is very comfortable with good strap and back padding
- the top grab strap is comfortable and strong
- the contrast color liner makes finding contents much easier
- the size is very practical since it is as tall as most packs but narrower and not so deep

Cons

- only Target sells them and they carry it irregularly
- it will not hold a large laptop (netbooks and iPads fit the main compartment pocket well)
