And some BO'd tinkers with red alox liners.  :D  These would look great with white scales I think.  I only have black and red right now though.

Any day now. They're in Canada since Wednesday.

Also,

Cool!

Brass is my favorite liner material, always looks good with any scales or colors.   :tu:

Yes.

I am thinking brass liners on a Red shield black Alox with maybe scissors or Urban PHD mode. Would look so nice after a few years of carry.

10 fieldmasters going for dissasseble right now.  They will most likely get converted to BO'd tinkers and hikers.  I like to make use of every part I can so there is no waste.  :D

Thanks to Enki! I have white scales to put on some BO'd tinkers.  Making up 7 of them right now...  :D

I haven't been able to keep up with this thread lately, but I was wondering if you had been able to incorporate the nail file from a Cadet into a 93 mm frame? I know it has been thrown out there before.

Yes Ive done that a few times.  The only catch is that it needs a custom made springs since the pivot end of the 84mm tools is smaller than the 93mm counterpart, but yes it works.

still trying to catch up reading this whole spread! I was going to wait till I caught up to start chiming in on the chats but I can't wait any longer! lol I know you've heard it a million times, because I've read it a million times! your work is amazing and I love seeing what you come up with next! so ill get right to it, you've inspired me to start modding myself and I actually love working with the  58mms ( I know you have a forum for those also ), I just had a quick question in general. I received a pint of stainless BO and I want to darken my 1st set of components. Should I just clean them up real nice before dipping them in the solution with standard dish washing soap, etc. or should I prep them in ferric chloride or sulfuric acid to get the most out of BO on the components?

and my next question, I saw you posted a CAD drawing of your scissor spring around page 54 or so. would you have the specs on that? or am I crossing the line with that question? I'm considering going the route you did with ordering some 440 and finding a good waterjet guy.

Anyway, I hope to start adding my 2cents and ideas to this thread to keep these amazing looking mods come to life! Thanks again, keep up the amazing work Bob!

Making the scissors backsprings is the closest thing to IP I think I have.  Im on revision 3 now and its getting better on each try.  If you want to have a try, keep in mind the springs will change shape during heat treat, and finishing them to look like a Vic spring is alot of work.  :D

This took lots of effort today...

Deluxe tinker with....
- Blue Ti Scales
- Black Alox Liner
- Stainless steel tip on tweezers
- Still 2 less liners than stock :D

I got my cake and am enjoying eating it.  Dropped the scale liners and tweezers work fine with the backspring as backing! :D

I cut a hunk off a backspring and rivetted it on the stock tweezer, then shaped it to fit the scale cutout!   :tu:

This, with a corkscrew and an inline phillips facing the can/bottle opener would probably be my dream SAK.

Gotcha, thanks for the advice and ill see what I can come up with. now for the BO do you prep them in ferric or sulfuric before the initial drop in the bo solution or just a regular cleanse will do? hah I'm kinda nervous to try it but ill post up progress pics if interested

I have an electroplater do the BO.  Its a hot caustic industrial process.  If you have the home kit for stainless I'm curious to see how that works out for you.  The guy I use has tuned the process for me and it comes out very nice, so its easier for me to have them do it.

Ya Im pretty happy with it!  The Ti frame really gives a tight snappy feel to the tools open/close and with the tweezer slot in back its not lacking tweezers, but still doesnt have the extra liners the cellidor SAKs do.   :tu:

Here is a comparison pic with standard deluxe tinker. Dropping those outer liners and having the Ti scales does save a noticeable amount of thickness.

Curious how it compares to a 3-layer cellidor...my guess is they should be pretty close.

So there's no liner to sandwich the tweezers.
Is the tang of the small blade in all positions enough to do that job?

Yep exactly.  I made the slot exactly at the position of the backspring then tested the heck out of it opening and closing the small blade and moving the tweezer in an out.  I assumed I had to have the backing liner and thats the main reason I wanted to drop scale tools, but now that this method works, its win win from my point of view anyhow.
