Here's something a bit different for me.  I did one with that light module and went through the process to make those goofy liners it needs from brass.

I really like the copper cross on this combined with the diamond texture scales.  First time Ive done this as well.

How it the copper cross done, is it an inlay that is then polished after tumbling? I thought the 3D cross on those scales was part of the titanium scale itself, so not sure how the copper gets onto it?

It's a solid piece of copper that goes through the scale.  I do that before I ma check one the texture.

I see, cool, so the copper doesn't get tumbled?

I understand it as that it does. First he machines a slot for for the brass slot and inserts it. Next he machines the chequering and after that he tumbles it.

Correct.  I also have a polishing mask so I can polish the cross after tumble if needed.

Hey Robert.

You only have these scales in blue at the moment?

I'm not Robert, but I believe the light blue is the easiest color to anodize titanium consistently,  which is probably why it shows up more often.  It also happens to be the perfect color for me, which works out nicely.

Blue and purple are the easiest.  The only other distinct colors are bronze and green.  I havent tried etching yet to get a good green.

Runs off to searh old posts for a picture of a purple tilox.

Noone has asked for purple yet so Ive only made blue.  I will do a purple set today for a comparison.  I need a pic of both blue and purple anyhow.

Purple?

The brass looks amazing.  It would be interesting to see the patina that develops.

Its cartridge brass... so I guess it would look like old ammo?  Haven't had a brass scaled mod long enough yet to see.

Old bullets devlop beautiful patina in my experience.

That brass would loom great with a brass mag glass.

How does this compare weight-wise to one with your Ti scales?

Shoot cant remeber now.  I think it was 7g more per scale.

I started prototyping 91mm snap on Ti scales.  :D  So far I got the inner bushing holes machined and test fit them on some SAKs.  Perfect fit.  :D

Would it be possible to pocket a place out for toothpick and tweezers   :D

Never mind you are just prototyping and seeing what all is possible right now I guess

Looks great! :tu:

If you can get the usual accessories in there (tweezers, toothpick, pin, pen) and do anodizing and milling (I'm thinking OC ti-lox like your customs), then I'd be all over a set or two.

Thats exactly the plan.  I will make up some with no slot, all slots, some slots...  Then some different ones.  I still want to try an integrated tweezer.  Either slides out like the pen in a 58mm or folds out.  I have some Ti the right thickness to make unibody tweezers from and Ive been really curious to know if that would work.   I still want a firesteel slot somewhere too.

Ya I work on one machining op at a time.  The holes and profile are key.  Then I can work on the slots and other ideas.  I think a swing out mini drawer is possible too.  I can see some uses for that like a mini sewing kit.  Would be cool to only have to ship scales.  Shipping would only be like 5-10 worldwide.

The mini drawer idea sounds awesome and once I posted that about the toothpick and tweezer I was like  He is just getting everything correct to be able to put them on before anything else :D So then I went and edited it really quick :D

That would be amazing
- Although I never understood how you could make a hole where it is larger on the inside than the rim - ie to fit the 'head' of the bushings - eg even on the current Celidor scales ???
And this would seem even harder when the scales are metal!

Ya I work on one machining op at a time.  The holes and profile are key.  Then I can work on the slots and other ideas.  I think a swing out mini drawer is possible too.  I can see some uses for that like a mini sewing kit.
Can't wait to see a Syph wundersak with tw and tp - The tp is one of my 'must have' tools on a SAK
Liking the idea of a slide out drawer - That would be like a secret drawer - What fun

Not so keen on the idea of integrated/fold out tweezers though - eg Micra/Leap - Prefer the SAK detachable method.
Can't really explain why - I guess integrated is a little unwieldy??

Damn Syph, I leave for awhile and you go and start making brass 91mm alox scales with backtools and slide ins.  Madness!

What is the status of your locking 94mm mainblade insert?  I have a TI Urban Pioneer that wants an upgrade!

Its not too many times I get to show a new configuration... but here it one.  First time ever, have I done this one.  Both phillips and corkscrew on the back of a SAK with only one scale cutout. ( I did this once ages ago with 2 scale cutouts).

(Image removed from quote.)

(Image removed from quote.)

As you can see there was just barely enough space and the phillips needed to take the space under the saw layer too, so I had to put a little stub piece in there to tension the saw spring.

HFS, this is crazy!

I think it will still need a dab of epoxy on each bushing.  That would be the best I think.  Still removable that way if you hit it with a heat gun it will melt the epoxy and allow the scales to come off.  I also want to test hot glue as it would be even easier to remove if its strong enough.  I want to do a backscale option with pocket clip so the attachment method must be secure enough to not rip the back scale off if its a clip version.
