I'm glad to see this one getting brought back up every now and again. I find it fun to reread every now and then but I might be somewhat biased.

It's great to see other people interested as well.

To be honest I know a few but I doubt very much I know them all.  I also know of a celebrity in our midst but I'm sworn to secrecy on all of that.  The manufacturers like to read our unbiased opinions and don't want to ruin that by posting too much.  Juli from Leatherman posted openly here a couple of times and I believe some CRKT reps did as well.

As for Helena, I haven't heard from her in some time. I hope all is well with her.

Def, what do you consider a celeb? We talking A lister? :)

As for our big hitters, the users with thousands of posts that i seek advice from, they are all "users", right?

I mean, not leatherman reps >:D

Although I do love leatherman.

Let's just say it's not a name you'd have to Google to see if you knew who it was.  I can't say any more or he/she may start to get all full of themselves....  :D

Most of the manufacturer reps (at least the ones I know of) have less than a dozen posts as I said, they don't want to foul the waters.

Thanks def, I feel better knowing my multitool idols here have only there own biases. I would cry if found out Mat or Bob were secretly double agents working for a manufacturer.

No the funny thing is, I really did think, jee I hope some of my idols here aren't secretly reps, but then I realized a good portion of my idols here are moderators and you would never willingly pick a rep to be a moderator.

Goes to show that you pick great moderators.
When I first joined the forum, Bob and Benner were so helpful, still are. Then Mat and Gareth and Neil have helped me quite a bit over the years. It was cool to see them become mods. If that pattern holds true, I could easily guess who the next mods are because there are some great members here who continue to help me and share their knowledge.

The mods pick the new mods, not me, so it stands to reason that the members that support each other are going to get picked up.

We've gone out of our way to remain independent of the manufacturers over the years, including some things they haven't been overly happy with. I try to be accommodating as much as I can, but there have been comments from members in the past we've been asked to modify or delete and that just won't happen.

At least not without a dump truck with some precious cargo showing up in my driveway!

Thread Resurrection!  This was a great read, I am so glad I found this place!  (I actually found it 7 years ago or so, but I was at the site, not the forum, and the forum is the meat of the domain)

everyone has been super nice, and helpful where possible, and I agree with the statement def made about other places being nothing more than a smurf measuring competition, glad this place is not like that.

 :MTO:

with all of the naming going on, I should just simplify it,  my actual first name is Detron!  :ahhh  https://www.facebook.com/detron.phillips
If I can help, let me know

 tHANKS TO dETRON... if not for that necro post, i wouldn't even know this thread existed. Trueest of the true, the folks here look after one another offering help whenever possible and not look down on anyone. Carebears will find this a nice place...well at least those who like multitools and beer (or wine for those sophisticated chaps)
Cheers,

Wow. What a read! It's incredible to think some of us have met Mr Leatherman. Blows my mind actually.

It's an awesome thing to see how the site started, and the members involved, has anyone ever made any updates on them?

What kind of updates were you looking for?

Micah (Whoey) is still here working hard to keep the site updated and looking pretty.

Bob (J-Sews) is on hiatus because his retirement plan hasn't worked out the way it was supposed to.

Travis passed away a few months ago from lung cancer.

Dave Bowen is still here, although he gets busy at times and doesn't post as much as he'd like sometimes.

Esteban is still around but busy with other projects.  He's only an email or IM away if we need him.

Joezilla is still world hopping as far as I know, and Jim Nowka is no longer in charge of KF, but has instead started an e-zine called Knife Journal.

Felinevet Tim is still here, and still the best SAK dealer on the planet.

I think that's everyone?
