Do you buy your multitools pre-loved.?
on: February 03, 2008, 03:46:01 PM
Hi all

After looking at the threads here I can see that I could easily spend a good few $$$ hundred dollars on new tools.! I have a quick look round the sales forum here and also eprey to get an idea on the pre-loved (second hand) market.

Seems the prices of the pre-loved multitools are very good.

So I wonder how many here buy pre-loved tools over brand new ones..??    :sak:

Thanks
deano

the only new MT's I buy are on sale anyway, so I really like used stuff.

All my multi's have been new, except two:  A Charge Xti and a Paladin PT 525.  But they were in such good condition, that they could have been called new.

Oops, should have used the search function...   :-[

I agree with the history of the item, its the same with watches (whihc I have collected alot of), even more critical as you cannot judge the watch on the dial and hands, its the movement that will cost you money of it needs servicing.!

Where do you generally get your pre-loved (sloopy seconds) from.?

The forum here would be my first port of call (just like the watches), as eprey will always be a minefield.

Thanks
deano

I think I've seen the search recommended maybe 2 times since I've been here. We generally like when new threads are posted re-hashing older topics. People always changed their minds and new members are always popping up.

:)

Anywho, I can't think of the last new tool I bought. I almost always get used tools from eBay, forum classifieds or pawn shops and garage sales.

I'd say that eBay is my #1 source. I've found a few good sellers and stick with them for purchases. Although I have yet to have a problem in my 30+ transactions on that site.

The other source, forum classifieds, is a great way to get used tools since you generally get excellent prices and are buying the tool from someone who is, at the very least, a fringe hobbyist who really doesn't abuse their tools.

P.S. If anyone who is looking for a bunch of PSTs, an older Wave, a PST II and some older Gerbers and would like to get a package deal PM me. I've been talking with a seller on another site and he's offering a great deal, it's just the wrong time financially for me.

yeah no worries Deano, you put your own spin on it and we drift off topic so much here, it could be hard to find and follow!
my sources are forums like this and trading with friends. I need to give ebay a try one day.

I don't mind whether they are new or used, as long as they are in serviceable condition. Most of the ones i've bought have been new or barely used though, mainly due to the ones I want at the time I can't find used! The UK isn't brilliant for the used tool market, its not bad just not great.

What are we talking about here?

I try to get my women as new as possible. NIB if possible..

Tools - If I can handle it, and it seems up to survey, then no worries.

 :D  Mike is very true.

Apart from used tools being a lot cheaper, I like them to show signs of use so I feel happier using them.  (Yes I know I am a tart).

Tim often gets some used tools in, but I mainly just buy used from the guys on here.  At least you know they have been owned by people that know how to look after a tool.

I think I only own 1 tool that I have had from new and that was given to me as a gift.
I'm back!!
