Here's mine...

Camillus 1994 USMC "demo" knife.

Picked up several at flea market for $5 each...cleaned up nice...solid and built like a tank...but not as polished as a vic soldier.

I can't believe they were 5 bucks each! They look like excellent knives. I'm on the lookout for one here in the UK

What is your opinion on it in comparison to the Soldier (apart from the finish which you mentioned already)?

Well, I have three to abuse, so ill let you know...I will say that the snap is not as strong, they are all steel, so heavy, the awl is more of a mini screwdriver profile, but, until these knives, I've never had rust come off with just a q-tip and some CLP...usually have to use sandpaper or steel wool.

I've heard they are bombproof, and a real contender against the SAK - Are they heavier than an Alox Soldier?

Yes...sharp edges, too...probably rough on the hands during extended use.

Just FYI, the backspring has a very bad reputation, it will break after fewer opening/closing cycles than a SAK or other quality folder. The original procurement contract said the backspring should be made of the same steel as the rest of the knife, which is obviously a very bad idea from a quality point of view. There was a discussion in SOSAK way back, and the guys with experience with the US “SAK-like” folders recommended the TL-29 as a superior knife for those interested in US military folders.

Great thread! Lots of interesting SAK-a-likes.

Is there a SAK-a-like that surpasses the quality of the SAK in anyone's opinion?

This is my favorite SAK-alike knife, made by Moede Solingen. This brand does not exist anymore and it seems that knives like this are not made anymore in Solingen.
It`s like a handmade all steel Farmer-Huntsman-mix (93mm long). The quality is amazing and it`s quite heavy (139 g; Farmer-85 g, Huntsman-97 g).

I have the Schrade "Century" SAK clones; the Orion and the Gemini. One is a Camper, the other is a Climber. Schrade had the parts made in Germany and sent to Ellenville, NY for assembly. The series was stopped in 1999, but left-over parts were used to make promotional knives and the like. A few people on Collectors of Schrades have mentioned that Victorinox supplied some of the parts. From what I've seen by comparison and actual factory workers, the only parts made by Victorinox that were used in the Century line's production were the liners and corkscrew.
This is gonna hurt...

I bought one for my daughter and wasn't impressed at all. I quickly replaced it with a SAK Climber.

I don't think they are worth the money.

AFAIK Victorinox do not make the corkscrew themselves, I think it's sourced from a French company. (Cliche, I know. :D )

My comment was just an old memory from SOSAK. I probably simply remember it wrong.  (But any article claiming the reason the corkscrew is sourced externally because there is insufficient forging knowledge in-house should be taken with a pinch of salt. :D )

Yea I found the article hard to believe. When you brought up where the CS was made I remembered the article. I was hoping someone to prove it wrong.
