Pocket Carrying Without a clip?
on: March 03, 2008, 07:50:56 AM
For those of you that carry your multi in your pocket without a sheath or a pocket slip, how do you do it?

I cant stand a multitool being in my pocket loose. As it is I always have 1 small Vic SAK and now a farmer, then the multitool on my belt. Plus wallet keys and chapstick.

This may be more of a rant then a topic. But how can you guys stand that heavy tool loose in your pocket?

Have you just gotten used to it? Is there another item in your pocket that keeps it upright? Whats up?

For the most part I carry tools with pocket clips and don't use sheaths. If I don't use pocket clips I carry a tool in my front pocket under my wallet for Pst/Blast size tools. Or for bigger tools with the wallet holding it up on the side.

I made a Kydex sheath for my Core with a reversed lip. This allows me to pocket carry. The sheath's lip mounts over the lip of the pocket, the Core residing inside my pocket.

I can pocket carry a light weight SAK or multitool using a Nite-Ize S-Biner or carry a heavier tool using a leather belt strap as shown in the photos below.

I often carry a Spirit in my pocket. It can be a bot of a pain at times but you get used to it. I don't like sheaths and the Spirit doesn't have a pocket clip(yet :D). Most of the time I just have a Farmer in my pocket but sometimes I just want(or think I need) the extra tools so I just deal with it.

Mine just go in my pockets and it doesn't bother me at all if they are large or small.  I generally only have 1 tool per pocket though to stop them knocking and rattling.

I carry my Juice s2 on a length of paracord that clips on to the lip of my pocket.  It works well, I don't feel it much, I can get it out quickly and doesn't draw attention to itself.

What kind of pants?

OnT: I carry my tools loose in my front pockets almost exclusively. I don't have problems with them moving around, the tool sits right next to my wallet and is held upright by it. As far as the weight, it's never been an issue. I guess I just have sturdy pants but it just seems to be absorbed.

Although if I take my pants off without emptying the pockets it's like a boat anchor hitting the floor.

I don't mind the weight or bulk of the tool in my pocket, the thing that stops me pocket carrying is trying to get the tool out. Its a lot easier for me to take a tool out of a pouch than a pocket, especially in cramped places (like behind a computer that i've had to commando crawl to get to!)

You know you're supposed to open the knife blade and stick it between your teeth before commando crawling anywhere right?

I must be honest, clips have spoiled me rotten

What kind of pants?

The pants in the photo are a faded pair of Dickies painter pants.

I wear Leatherman Pants. Designed and made by Leatherman to specially fit all their tools without clips or sheaths.

(Literally halfs of dozens of people who are reading this post are now frantically googleing and telephoning Leatherman to inquire how to purchase these nonexistant pants. I couldn't resist.)

Only half?  Crap, I already had an email into Marc at www.EDCDepot.com as well as emails off to Dennis at www.Gerber-Tools.com and Tim at www.Felinevet.sosakonline.com to see if there were Gerber and Victorinox pants as well!  I was going to do a shoot out! :D
