Thank you for the welcome back.

I missed the spring loaded pliers, due to my arthritis in my hands. Then realized the OH function of the tools provided great functionality for my simple needs.

Then of course RapidRays great pictures of HIS OHT just sold me on needing one again.
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

I would like to see scissors and the bit holder on the OHT
And newly designed handles  :dd:
I feel the same about the Crunch :tu:

Leatherman could do two things and improve the OHT.

First, lower the price.  $90 is a tad high, $75 would be more practical IMHO!

Second, offer variants of the OHT. Would require revised handle relieves(?)

I would like a file (diamond), and replace the Serrated blade. Even install a Combo blade instead of the PE.

Scissors are a issue. Does not seem any mfg has installed a well performing scissor in a MT.  Likely why the deep-v cutter is present as it fits the shorter slot nicely.

Just a couple thoughts...

Yes  :iagree: scissors That work are some
what of a rare thing on a multi tool
But there is no excuse for fitting scissors that don’t
work properly and thinking that we will get away with it
They should be ashamed of putting tools on a multitool
That don’t do what they are supposed to do

I don’t know why they can’t get scissors
that work properly or a tin opener  :dunno:

It’s like the most important thing to them is the pliers
Which I think isn’t the right attitude to have
Especially when you are calling it a multi tool
And for the price they want for them
I can buy a excellent quality set of pliers
But they are selling it as a multi tool
Than as a company at least make sure all
of the tools you put on them work properly  :tu:

I don't see those things as "updating" it any - just another option with a different toolset.
(I "updated" my Surge by taking the bit driver out and replacing it with screwdrivers  ;) )

The OHT was targeted at a specific user - the military. But variations would be nice, although they are constrained by the design.

I think that every tool made has the hope to be adopted for use by soldiers and to purchased for military contracts.

The OHT I believe was designed and introduced to be a one handed tool that was to compete and beat the Gerber line of tools.

I have the MP400 and a Diesel. Both are good tools with good pliers and a wide choice of implements. The downside to me is that I must deploy the pliers to select a knife or any implement. Then retract the pliers to then utilize the implement, then do it all again to put it back away.

To me, the OHT is perfect as an improved sliding plier tool because AWL implements can deployed with or without the pliers deployed.  And can be done with the hand holding the tool! And, also can be put away as well.

I came appreciate the OHT during the challenge last November.  It threaten my respect for my Rebars and SuperTool, so I gifted my OHT to another that had consistently expressed interest and appreciation of the OHT.

But, 90 days without the OHT, I just knew I did benefit from its function and also its beastly beauty.

That seems a lot of work just to be able to use a tool
It is definitely easier to use the OHT
Makes me think differently about the OHT now :tu:

I like it. And I too prefer not having to slide out the pliers to get at the tools like with Gerbers.  :bnghd:

Sure, it would be nice if some of the tools could be longer (well, the saw anyway) but we are constrained by the 'architecture' of the OHT. But I'm still interested to see OHTs with other tools in them.

I don't have a OHT.  But I was just on the Leatherman website and I was looking at their pictures of the OHT.  It looks like the can opener tool is shaped slightly different from the standard leatherman lobster claw shape.  Could anyone with an OHT and a wave, charge, signal, surge, etc. post a close up side by side picture for comparison purposes???
Also, does anyone know what the reason was for the change and how the OHT can opener performs compared to the normal leatherman opener?

G'Day King_G,

I include a few pics with a Signal, PST II and a Charge Ti. The shape is closer to the PST than the newer tools' opener. No wire stripper included, hence a shorter opener.

The change is most likely due to the chassis size. With the tools on the outside, space is a premium.

Cheers, Pete

Cheers Poncho,

I had a look at the OHT and where the bottle opener is located. There is no way the new version will fit. There is a few mm between the saw and the opener, thus I suspect that size has to do with it. Most of the tools on the plier side is slightly smaller to accommodate the larger ones on the handle side. It is still a very usable tool. I carry mine on a regular basis.

I pair it with a Micra or SD in a combination pouch made by one of our inmates.

Cheers, Pete

I am not sure why, the OHT can opener on the leatherman website looks a little different.  Maybe I am just going crazy.   :dunno:
