Flagship Store Geneva
on: October 03, 2012, 09:21:46 PM
Now, I'm very excited. I'm going a buisness trip to Geneva and I'll be having half a free day, 18th of October.
Will I go to CERN? I don't know, maybe.
Will I go to the old city? Perhaps.
Will I go to some museum? I'll think about it.
Will I go to the Victorinox Flagship Store? You bet!!!

Flagshipstore Victorinox Geneva

I'm not a collector, I EDC my knives and I now have two flagship models, so I'm not going there for a shoping spree (we have a financial crisis here, you know). OK, I might buy some minichamp or some accessories, I don't deny it. But mainly I'm going there to see, to look, to observe, to peep.
Has anybody been there?

I have stood outside it, does that count?  Sadly I was there on a Sunday and the store was closed.  Lots of other little places selling SAKs though.  I did get in a visit to the London store, fun but the prices were high and I didn't buy anything.

You mean that the prices are higher than the Internet's?
I hope they don't charge for peeping.

Prices in London were all full UK retail, which is NOT cheap sadly.  You should be able to find a good deal in one of the dozens of shops that sell SAKs in Geneva though, they really are everywhere.

On museum I would highly recommend is the Histroy of Science museum.  If you have any kind of interest in the subject it's a very pleasant place to visit.

Yes I do. Thank you.  I've been to London's and most citie's I visited Science Museums, Planetariums and Natural History Museums. It is close to the store, so I'll try to get them both. The next day I'll be fed with science up to the throat but you can't be harmed by a science overdose, can you?  :gimme:

It has been a little of disappointment. 80 of space for clothes and bags and the rest for SAKs. They didn't permit photographs, so I didn't get one of the engraving and assembly bench (with hundreds of blades, scales and rivets to make any SAK). They had some very luxurious Vics though.
The city is full with Victorinox, Wenger and Swiss Military shops.
Some candid pics. I'll try again tomorrow.

I did a CERN excursion 2 years ago with my university (yeah, we got to see the real stuff, not that tourist crap :P) . I only had my trusty Midnight Manager at that time and wasn't into SAKs that much. Damn I should have gone to that shop.
Say my name.

This town is a heaven for SAK (and watches) lovers. They give equal attention to Wenger. Wenger has some very interesting knives, like the Titanium and Black lines. And those Rangers are terrifying! They also have many cutleries with Swiss and French knives. Opinel and Laguayolle get their share. If I was a collector I would be soon poor or mad after my visit here. I got the book "History of the knife" but I didn't find hex bits for Cybertools yet.
These Swiss guys are rich and it shows!

If you have time, check out the local flea market for older model Vics and Wengers.

I managed to sneak in today. Just an iPhone quick photo, but better than nothing!
On the right there is the scales changing facility. Left you can see a tall furniture full with scales of any kind. Unfortunately they've run out of silver scales I wanted.
In the center you see the SAK assembly machine. The selves are full with blades, liners, springs and rivets. They only assemble custom engraved Spartans there, in front of the eyes of the customer, for 33 CHF.
On the left they have some accessories and cleaning fluids.
On the extreme left there is the engraving machine. It is connected with a PC running custom Victorinox software. They left me to use the PC because the clerk couldn't use Greek letters. Finally the name I engraved could be with Latin alphabet because all capitals used are common, but I said nothing so as not to loose the opportunity of using the software. You may print in Jewish, Arabian and any language, up to two rows of 20 characters.
You can see my revitalized Swiss Champ comrade, now swimming in Aegean blue and my XLT with the name of my eternal beloved surrounded by two symbols, mine and hers.

Another, somewhat better, view of the previous SAKs. Between the wood and horn scaled and the giant knives (XLT to XAVT) there are some silver, gold, platinum and diamond scaled SAKs that you may buy for 1500 to 110000!!!

I meant precious and the prices are Swiss Franks of course. Damned iPhone autocorrection (?).
The trend of the season is colorful Alox Cadets.
The Swiss kits are impressive also. They keep the knives with magnets. The result is very impressive but the light and shadows don't help to get a decent photo without DSLR and tripod.

You may see the entrance of the shop. Also the big 4 story glass wall that is filled with Spartans in phalanx formation.  :salute:

I never had the opportunity to see a live Wenger Giant knife until my trip to Geneva, where I could inspect it in, more or less, 10 different stores. You may study it in these two pictures. I would like to have a custom Wenger with just the knife blades of this one. I counted about 15 different blades, drop- point, clip- point, sheepfoot, Warncliff, watchmakerr's, hawkbill, serrated and straight. With half of those blades and an awl, woodsaw and metalsaw one would have a knife to cut everything.
