The red LED on Signature Lite and Midnight Manager?

For those folks who own them... how are the red LED lights on the 58mm Vics?

Primarily, are they bright enough to see where your feet are going in otherwise total darkness?

They are bright enough to find a keyhole, but for walking around, no. You may light your feet but not the path they are going.

Victoirnox is going to the white LED on these little knives.  Much brighter.

When is 'is going to'?

Does that mean 'new ones have white LEDs', or 'new ones in the FUTURE will have white LEDs'?

Also, I appreciate the info, guys.

I will add; that all Red LED models now appear to be discontinued.  You can find them now at some very good clearance prices.

I've had a Signature Lite with red LED for several years, still on its original battery.  Even with dark adapted eyes, it just puts a ringy red spot in front of my feet, and unless I walk really slow and squint hard to see by the dim light, I'm liable to trip over a rug, stub my toe on a bed post, or walk into a wall... Or maybe I just need a new battery for it, lol...  :D

The Red ones are of very limited use. The white ones that replaced them are a bit better..

They are both for emergency use only, thus you need to have a torch on you anyway if you need to see properly in the dark. I replaced my midnite manager with a standard one, gaining tweezers and losing the useless light, since I have a keychain torch anyway

I have swiss cards with both white and red led, which I guess are probably similar lights.  The red is nearly useless, but the white can actually light my way in the dark in a pinch.  Every wallet needs a while led swisscard!

How durable are those swisscards? It feels like you'd risk cracking them if you put them in a wallet that you carry in your back pocket.

Hmmm I keep mine in a lower side pocket of cargo pants, so I don't sit on it, so I cant say if it would crack or not.  But I use it alot since it does have a pen, tweezers, scissors etc if I carry an ALOX sak, I still have the extras.

Ah yeah.. that'd help I suppose.

I tend to sit on my wallet though (biggest reason I carry the thinnest one I can find :P) so that might be a bit worse. I know my credit cards and so on tend to get a bit bent after a while.

I guess I could always put the swisscard in some other pocket though.

The white lights both in Swisscards and in 58mm Vics are way better than the red ones.

If you are into amateur astronomy a red light is all you need and, I assure you, when at the top of a mountain, miles away of any considerable city, with your pupils dilated at 5-7mm and your retina rods fully chemically adapted, then this tiny red light looks like a torch.

That makes sense; about a couple of weeks ago I picked up a SwissLite (Classic SD without the toothpick but with a LED) with the older red light - and the price was insanely low; hell, it even came with a free keyring/belt clip. I was wondering what kind of SAK to get a friend for the upcoming holidays, and this was it.
