It's ridiculous, but I think I need a Monster 58

I'm missing #7 and #11 but I just picked up a Caddy with the divot tool #12 and I have "light" and "signature" scales in Ruby.

Oh nice, I'm planning on adding the USB layer to my Alox Rambler. Does the USB part fit directly or is there some modding to be done?

There is four little brass collars that slide over the pins, that need to be modded into the knife. The collars or spacers keep the space open the correct amount and are the correct diameter for the USB drive to hinge and clip in. This is for the new style USB drive. I have never seen the old style.

I think Neil made something similar ages ago... lots of fun to have 58mm madness in your pocket :tu:

That's exactly what I would like (someone who has the skills) to do! :D

Go for it!  Make it as fat as you can! :D

I never got into the 58's, my hands are freakishly large so an 84mm to me is probably like a 58 to most people.  The 58s are just too tiny for me, but they do have some interesting 58 specific tools that give me ideas.... hmmm

I don't know, if you could see him in his Lab...  er, I mean Workshop, you might not think it's such a good idea.

(notice he seems preoccupied with his "freakishly large hands".)

In the top pic... was the second pair of scissors just there to act as a spacer for the reverse side combo tool? One of them with wire stripper, one without?

As far as I can see they tried for the full range of official 58mm tools that have ever been used.

One pair of scissors has a screw pivot and the other is riveted. Same theory behind the two flat-blade combo tools, one with wire stripper notch and one without.

I think you got it in one. I just didn't spot the screw/rivet. Even after briefly having an Explorer with a screw in the scissors, I hadn't though to look for it.

This is how I envision Syph in his workshop/lab...

Unfortunately, the lousy US air-play/MTV version, and not the much better, and cooler, longer UK album version.

LOL that's pretty close, except I have less hair!  Its getting pretty gray now though.

I did spend quite a few years in a lab coat in the 90s though.  My formal education is in analytical chemistry, but I never was employed using the degree I took though. LOL isnt that just how things go... oh well.  My academic career ended with 'most' of a masters degree, but I ran out of steam.  Once you get a 'real' job its hard to finish school when it feels like you wont use it.  :D  Also I remember seeing 35 yr old post docs in the lab looking like life had beat them down, and making a poverty wage.  I didnt want to be those guys.   ;)

I still use a labcoat when I do my 'backyard' chemistry though, and a full face shield with respirator.  Funny thing is now that the leaves are off the back hedges the neighbors can see me dipping my sak scales in a sodium hydroxide bath in all my gear.  I wonder sometimes what they think.. lol oh well.  If the police show up some day I wont be surprised.  I'll just explain to them Im 'cleaning' the parts.

Heinz, I feel a need to point out that your name, avatar, and tag line are three distinctly different geekinesses! Okay, well there's a Nathan Fillion connection between two of them, so I'll let it slide.

EDIT: also.... SCIENCE!!!

Yeah science! :D

Love me some Nathan too :tu:

I've got a couple of old lab coats somewhere too - last used at a fancy dress party IIRC. Don't miss the lab work... you're right about guys looking beaten down after years of it.

Oh, and I'm going very grey; have been since I was 18, so quit your bitchin' and get modding

My geek-cred goes up!  Ha!  :D

After seeing the photo that Chrissy posted, I couldn't help myself... I just had to find a suitable one to swap, since I had great aspirations to be a mad-scientist when I was a kid...

Sticking needles in monkey's brains is about as close as I ever got though...

I'd love a FAT 58mm with alox handles.  Nothing too special just a Alox MiniChamp with the new slim flash-drive.  What would make it really cool is to find a way to put the small LED light into a layer, and maybe in that same layer on the other end be able to insert the older removable pen.  I envision a slot in the material used for the layer such that when the pen was removed it could be pushed into the top of the layer to extend the pen.
