My project is probably going to be a disaster in the making. It will be the cheapest couple of hours of entertainment though.
May I ask what you use to cut the pivots down?

I used a small hack saw to cut them down but if you mean the the rivets on the tool itself. I went a little more more aggressive than I should of in retrospect.
You'll need to clamp the tool down in drill press mountable vice, then use a carbide bit (ideally 1/8) and slowly auger out the rivet head till its gone. You should be able to tap it and free the tools.
Keep in mind where the spacers and washers are. The super thick ones go opposite the blades, the super thin ones sandwich the file exclusively and the medium one is coupled with the figure 8 lanyard ring.
