I'm REALLY on the fence about the new Star Wars stuff. I want so desperately to WANT to be excited, but I'm not.

I hate to say it...

Maybe I'm...

Maybe I'm over Star Wars?

Then again, 'Star Wars: Rebels' isn't completely terrible. So....

+1 Lynn,

I really want to like the new movies, same as every batman film and every ZZ Top album after Eliminator, but I'm pretty sure I'm gonna be disappointed.

Ah well, could be a lot worse.

Derek - what would you recommend in the way of books? I like the darker stuff and Chewbacca.

Thing is...none of it happens(happened?have willen happends?). All that cannon,Lucas approved stuff set post Jedi is wiped clear! On the plus side, the Mighty Chewbacca lives( :woohoo:) On the down side, how good would the Thawn trilogy have been?
There is no beginning,or ending, and for this we are thankful, cos now is hard enough to understand!

The Sith Army Knife...

Not my idea, but I thought it particularly fitting here.

I did like Abrams' take on Star Trek too actually, it was true enough to the old ways, but fresh enough to not just be a clone (like the Hobbit after LOTR's success), and add something a bit "new" to the mix. I hope he does this with the Star Wars film, but in reality I have to approach this as being something entirely new (much like a new James Bond era) otherwise I'll be pretty much guaranteed to be disappointed

Maybe I too watch the original Star Wars as a kid, so I felt so much drawn to the character/acting/drama from the original trilogy.  Nowadays, besides the oversupply of special effect/CG, there aren't much to look forward to.  I just hope it's not like Hobbit to LOTR.  I actually like Abram's stuff, probably it all got started from Alias.

I have so many concerns... But I keep reminding myself that Marvel was getting boring in the mainline 'verse even before Disney bought it and I've not seen a single Marvel Studios movie that I didn't buy with in a month of it going out onto the shelves, after watching it at least once in the theatre.

But I'm afraid that the prequeals were so bad that it might have ruined Star Wars for me. But the trailer is certainly pretty. I'm loving the X-wings going in at wavetops.

Imho the Inquisitor's lightsaber in Star Wars Rebels is a better mix of Darth Maul and what General Grievous used to do:

Exclusive! Original, Unaltered Cut Of Star Wars Trilogy To Be Released On Blu-ray By Disney
Quote
For a long time Star Wars fans have been clamoring for Disney/Lucasfilm to re-release the original, unaltered cut of the first Star Wars trilogy, and Comicbook.com has now confirmed with two independent reliable sources that just such a plan is under way.

According to our sources, Disney has plans to release the original cut of the Star Wars trilogy on Blu-ray. Our sources indicate that the project has been under way for quite some time, but it’s been challenging because of some damage to the original negatives they are utilizing. The goal is to release A New Hope, Empire Strikes Back, and Return of Jedi in their complete, unaltered, original form without the redone special edition SFX.

Our sources did not have an exact date as to when the original cut of the Star Wars Trilogy would be released on Blu-ray, due to the challenges Disney has encountered in pulling everything together. However, our sources indicated the goal is to have it ready and released before Star Wars Episode VII is released in theaters.

Interesting if it does actually happen, guess that means a few more Blurays for my collection!

Old books are mostly no longer cannon according to Disney.

New trailer gives me hope that the new trilogy will not suck as the prequels did.

I believe there are a couple new books out, as well as plenty more in the pipeline... and a new comic series recently started too afaik.

I think a lot of fans are going with the assumption that even though some stuff is not cannon anymore, it's still accepted as extended/expanded/alternate universe.

I suspect a lot of fans are being very cagey in their expectations after the soul-crushing disappointment that was the second trilogy.  Yes I'm looking forward to seeing this, though I doubt I'll be queuing up on opening night.
