New appreciation for the Super Tinker screwdriver

I love my Victorinox Super Tinker, but I have never used the screwdriver much because it opens the Vic into a "T" shape which makes it hard to work in tight places. While fixing a stubborn kitchen drawer today, I found myself needing to apply A LOT of force on a wood screw to tighten it down, probably because I didn't drill the hole deep enough. I tightened the screw with my firmest grip on my screwdriver but I couldn't get it all the way in. I decided to try my Super Tinker because I happened to have it out. I found that I was able to apply much more downward force and turning power by gripping the T shape knife tightly like in these photos I took. It worked great! The Super Tinker didn't flex one bit, and I didn't have too go out looking for a bigger handled screwdriver.

Then again.. I tend to make do with the can opener as well so I'm usually good.

Good to hear about success stories with the back spring phillips, my success rate with that tool was about 10% over the years with both the Super and Deluxe Tinkers. I usually had to resort to the can opener or a trip to the toolbox, sometimes for a band-aid too. Tempted a few times to sail it across the yard. Maybe it was just bad technique?

Good to here some love for the back tool Phillips.It may not be as good as the inline,but its still a good and useful addition to a SAK!

Be very careful about the amount of torque you apply.  Remember that you're torquing on a brass pin (soft) which is supported only by a thin Aluminum liner (also very soft).

In that thread, I replaced the brass pin with a stainless steel pin.  It's held up better but the design really requires a better retaining system than an aluminum liner, imo.
