I've did a bit of outdoors stuff, although I admit i've never had a multi with me.
I don't think i'd want to go below the largest sizes, say a Super Tool or Swisstool, just more meat to work with in case things go wrong.
As for sharpening i'd prefer to carry a dedicated diamond file but that may be overkill.

How effective would a damond file be for sharpening a hatchet anyway?

I've never sharpened an axe. Aren't dedicated axe files sold for that ?  That would always be best.

Axes typically have a lower rockwell number compared to knives (normally between 52 and 55 on an axe) so its far easier to roll an edge on an axe, so you need something course to right the damage :)

its about the best bushcraft multi tool,of any plier based ones, due to good tool setup, for outdoor tasks, and no-bull construction.and it has the best saw of leathermans.

I was going to suggest the core also, although I have not used mine for bushcraft I fully trust it as I have used it extensivley working on Air Conditioning Units. It has cut wire, ductwork, filed fan motor shafts, removed and replaced countless screws as well as taken a good shock one day when a misguided slip touched across two ends of a contact. That did not feel to good and I bought myself a pair of kleins after that. My Core still rides up into attics with me though to keep from lugging so many different tools to get lost in the insulation. I have cleaned squirrel with the cores knife too. So it is solid and a winner.
