Can key

Have you guys seen many of these type of Phillips. Trying to date a fisherman knife, blade stamps are 1974 - 2005

My reading of old posts(Jaszzbass and others) leads to the square can key phillips beginning around 1973 and continuing to either 1980 or 1982 depending on the source. The real experts will be along soon.

Can key on a square phillips is c. 73 - 83, give or take a year or so in either direction. You see them appear at the end of the "Victoria" blade era (1974) and disappear right before the sewing eye/new fine screwdriver/etc changes in 1985. That Fisherman can also be dated by the scissors and the awl. Post pictures of each and I can give you a better date.

The file was dropped from the side of the squared phillips driver circa 1969, for several years the squared phillips was smooth with no can key, then the can-key slot was added, then in 1980 the phillips driver became round still with can key until the slot was dropped some 5 years later.  You can rely on jazzbass's dates.
