Not around here.  :D In all seriousness I always pronounce the W.

I can't listen to the previous post, but in German (many Swiss words are derived
from German), "W" is pronounced "V". I usually use the Venger pronounciation.

Since Wenger is in the French-speaking part of Switzerland, I assume it's a 'W' rather than a 'V'.

Since Wenger is in the French-speaking part of Switzerland, I assume it's a 'W' rather than a 'V'.

But it looks like it's not Franco-derived at all, which means even if their neighbors mispronounce it, the name should remain 'V'.  At least that's my interpretation.

I don't believe I've ever said the name Wenger out loud.  I'd probably mispronounce it too.

I'd hate to get it wrong and embarrass myself at a dinner party.. But I'm more inclined to the Germanic V

Do you pronounce Victorinox with a 'V' or an 'F'?

I have this doubt as well, about Wenger, any member from switzerland could give their homeland point of view.

Both Wenger and Victorinox as far as I know are correctly pronounced both with the English 'V'. Wenger sounds to be a Germanic name while Victoria definitely is not.

Although I am sure Wenger pronounced with the English "W" is fine too at least in some parts of the world, especially if the CEO pronounces it this way while speaking in English.

Hi

In german and french you would pronounce it like a 'V' (Victorinox and Venger). But in english I would call them Victorinox with 'V' and Wenger with a soft 'W'...

Greetings from Switzerland

Thanks, Pawn. :salute:

I just pronounce it same as I do Arsène Wenger. No one watches the Premier League? :D

As for Victorinox, that's easy. Same as Victoria + the INOX part. At least in this case there shouldn't be any confusion. ;)
