The funny part, I don't even like Bear Grylls. However, because it is Gerber gear, I am honour bound to get at least some of it.

I have a Swiss Gear pack that is almost identical to this bag. Just the color scheme and logos seem to be different from outward appearance. I received it maybe 8 years ago as a Christmas present from my Wife. It has held up quite well. Ofcourse, I don't carry around 37 different knives.

A good survivalist with access to this kit could probably build a survival shelter out of knives :D

Interesting.... Looks like the Evo is $49 and the BG is $58.... What are the differences?

The BG has little rubber traction pads on the handles. Also, and most importantly - it has the stylized "BG" logo on it and his signature. It's just a marketing gimmick to squeeze as much money out of consumers by milking the Bear Grylls/survival popularity wave.

It's the same deal with gun and knife manufacturers (Gerber again ::)) currently making these zombie apocalypse specific items - very popular right now.

What we have to keep in mind is:

a) Gerber are a business and are allowed to try and make money.

b) there is an extra expense in producing the BG version, they have to pay Bear for the right to use his name.  I very much doubt he is letting them use his logo for free. ;)

It makes sense if Gerber is banking on a zombie Apocalypse.. when that happens and all the badly made gerber machetes snap off after your second zombie... try returning it for warranty then!
