Well, my favourite vacation spot is the home town of my late grandparents in Horndal, Sweden.
I tried to find some pictures in the internet, because our extern hard drive doesn't work properly. Then I remembered a book my uncle gave me. My late grandfather (as an retired journalist - one of the many things he made by the way) and some of his friends in the town had started to put it together, to show people how it looked like when they where young, then he started feeling bad and couldn't work on it anymore.
After his death my uncle and the friend of my grandfather put the finishing touch to the book and found a publisher to get some properly made books out of it. They had to made some new runs by now because people wanted it like sliced bread.

The house with the number 32 is the house of my grandparents. 33 belongs to the good neighbour and friend of the family. Every time we visit, we talk to each other, drink a coup of coffee together (Fika) and in the early autumn he brings us some good chanterelles.

Here is an old picture and a new one of the main road through town. The supermarket still looks the same like I remember from childhood. :) You always get good sandwiches there AND - of course - the best Smörgåstårta! (A bread based pastry with shrimps in)

Horndal once was a iron working town. Everywhere do you find Slagsten (slag stones). There once even was some big piles of the blue-green stones, but tourists and townsfolk have taken them and made fine jewellery out of it. The town is still proud of its history and there is the Bruksparken where you find some old industry pieces and there they will hold the Midsommar festivities.

With my grandparents and later with RT we would visit the city of Falun too. An old mining city, where they got copper out of the mines and the famous Falu-Rödfärg, the traditional colours of the Swedish houses.
The old mines are closed now for mining, but you can take tours through it and learn of the history of mining.

Even several kings and queens of the Swedish Kingdom and the crown princess visited as a tradition and wrote their names on the walls.

And back to horndal we would swim in the lake of Rossen.

And the winner is RamoN.

Congrats, please PM me your address so we can ship this one to you.

His winning post:

Province of cordoba argentina, not the best pics ever but ones i had handy of my previous trips. The first two of a trip i did with my motorcycle and the lower two some places you can only reach trekking.

Its my favourite because you have everything in very little distance which is not common in my country. You have mountains, lakes, heat, snow, great roads, great trekking routes, big tourist places, small isolated spots where people seem to live in another century, etc.
