Good deal for fiskars axe?
on: June 20, 2008, 05:56:22 AM
The 14" hatchet is on sale for $12, I don't really need an axe but this sounds like a good deal. Should I go for it? Maybe I can use it for camping trips etc. in the future. I'm totally clueless on axe so I have no idea about their use/construction/quality etc.

It's this one: http://www.fiskars.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10001&langId=-1&catalogId=10101&categoryId=10277&productId=10533&page=products

Bought one of those at Lowes several years back, but now I can't recall what I paid.

It chops quite well, is comfortable to use, and has proved to be very durable.

For most purposes it is plenty Good Enough.

Likely the best best hatchet you'll ever find for $12.

Seriously, there are better hatchets (Granfors Bruk (sp?) for example) but they are way more expensive (well over 100 bucks) and probably are not as durable as the Fiskars.

Excellent deal on a really nice axe.  I love my Fiskars--it's a great combination of extreme durability and light-weight handling.

Go for it!

Thanks, I'll go pick one up tomorrow, even though I don't really need it, like my multitools.  ::)

I have the " Gerber Combo Axe II. This has a NICE wood saw that is held in place by a magnet in the handle. Plus, it was only $30 bucks!

I finally got to use it today, man this thing is sweet. Had to cut down a lilac bush and it was going through thumb thick branches in one swing, and the main branch which was arm thick went down in under ten seconds. I guess that was pretty good consider I don't know how to chop worth crap.  :D

Where's the eye-candy? :pok:

I believe the Gerber Gator series axes are made in China while the Fiskars and the Gerber equivalents are still Finnish made.

I LOVE my fiskars axe. I have a hatchet too.

It's my mele weapon for the zombie apocolypse. Well, it gets used to cut wood too:)
