Ah So Cork Puller.  ;)

Thanks.  I could have done with one of those yesterday.  Literally 2 days after I typed "I've never broken a corkscrew," I did this...

I didn't see the angle on the forks before. I guess it is supposed to catch the inside neck of the bottle. I don't know if that would work 100% of the time. If you have had any luck with it they are probably worth keeping around for a bad cork day.

I used the Ah-so for years and never had a problem. My wife wanted corks for making trivets consisting of a wood frame with corks laying on their side within the frame so I used the Ah-so to maintain the integrity of the cork. I generally use a Pulltap which uses a double lever and works flawlessly. There are a lot of counterfeit versions so make sure you are purchasing a genuine Pulltap which has a teflon coated screw. With the Pulltap I've only had a couple of corks which I have needed to use the Ah-so with.

Considering how much I paid for mine, I thought I'd never get to see a worn gunmetal cadet.... thanks for sharing murrydan :tu:

Now, anybody with pics of a worn violet cadet?

Wow! I have never done that. When I said I broke a few corkscrews the part that always breaks is the handles. Seems like that must be some kind of manufacturing defect (bad casting, etc.)

Ok, new tool request: multitool with heavy duty forged steel corkscrew with billet titanium telescoping handle

I don't think it was a defect, I had that corkscrew for at least 10 years!  The cork was really stuck in the bottle.  You can apply a lot of force with the leverage of those "waiter's friend" style corkscrews.  I used a cheap Bahco multitool that has an especially beefy corkscrew to get it out in the end, and I had to really haul on it!

I need to get more information about it, actually. There is an older version in another thread that came from the 60s, but this one is a bit newer, as the +PAT has been dropped from the can opener. It's not an advertising piece, but beyond that, is it just a newer version of the golden boy Pioneer? It has brass liners and a brass key ring, though the key ring is not original, unless again the factory used a special supply to match brass with brass.

Interesting. Kudos for committing the sacrilege of altering the shape of the knife blade! Reminds me of a Douk Douk.

Maybe if it was hollow ground it would look more familiar?
