Your Sak and your carry gun
on: March 11, 2015, 08:22:16 PM
I have been collecting guns for over 20 years and just got started in really collecting knives about a year ago. So to combine my two favorite things here is a pick of the my 2 favorite SAK's to EDC along with my favorite CCW a Kahr PM9.

Well the SAK changes almost daily, but this is as close to a carry gun that I'm allowed here in Nanny-stralia.

Handmade by me from 316 stainless steel

AND they even wanted to take this off me at the airport one day!!!

This S&W .38 has been with me for about 42 years now. Lots of camping trips and hiking trips it's been a companion on. Sits on my bedside table at night.

Sometimes something extra small is needed.

Those NAA revolvers are cool. A bit tricky to shoot, but the cool factor makes up for it.  :D

My vintage WWII 1941 Colt 1911A1 and my 1943 Elsener Soldier.
The Colt is de-activated as per UK law and I only carry it at special events.
The knife I carry quite often as it's so good.

De-activated? Likein non working?

I thought you could have a working handgun in the UK if you did all the paperwork and paid the fee's.

Other than the Military and law Enforcement in the UK we can only own a Handgun with a Section 5 licence. This is extremely hard to obtain and you need a very good reason to be granted one.
So as a collector I can only legally own a real 1911 that has been de-activated so it can no longer function as a real firearm. We can own most Rifles and Shotguns on a normal licence. Just no Pistols or SMG's etc.

I didn't know that! Here I had a mental vision of all these British guys who's dd or granddad brought home an old Webley revolver from WW2, or a nice old Luger, to g with all those beautiful old English double barrel guns that you folk do so well. I've seen so many of those old Holland and Holland, Purdy, Webley and Scott, field grade double shotguns with the outstanding walnut stocks and engraved receivers. On the other hand, you chaps have less shootings in a year than we have on one day in our major cities, so maybe there's something to it.

We had a truly awful massacre involving pistols, so in true governmental, knee jerk reaction, they made it impossible to own a pistol or revolver.

The shooting press at the time assumed that it would only be semi automatics that would be banned, but alas the wheel gun went too :(

We've had a few really bad mass shootings here too, and they did some feel good legislation as well. But as a life long American gun owner, I even have had some second thoughts on gun ownership. The Connecticut and Colorado shootings were a high volume firepower rifle, and I wonder if the U.K. doesn't have a better idea.

I think there is room for a few changes certainly. I feel that there's little need for high capacity, large calibre autos on these shores. We don't have self defence as a reason to carry, so there's no need for the above over here :)

Its a very different kettle of fish your side note of the pond. I really wouldn't not want to even attempt comment on your firearm laws :)

Trusted field gear.  My Vic Farmer and my 30 year old S&W Mod 650 Service Kit Gun in 22 mag.

A compact companion for camping/fishing and when loaded with shotshells, that little Smith is heavy duty snake medicine! Lots of copperheads and rattlers here at the farm.

I never "carry" a pistol any more but by force of habit usually have a 94 Winchester behind the truck seat (for hogs and such).

I have the kissing cousin to your 650 and that is the 651.It's equipped with a wolf spring kit and Herrett Shooting Star grips. The internal parts have been mirror polished as well as the face of the trigger.

I also have it's little brother the S&W model 63.It has the same refinements as the 651.

Both are constant companions of my wife and I on hiking, camping, fishing, rafting trips, except in bear country, where my S&W 629 4" gets the nod.

OMG a nickel 34 !

When I run across those,which isn't often,the guy usually wants $1,200-$1,300.00.

I believe that your 650 is much more rare than the 651 because they were made for fewer years. It also has the 3" barrel where as the 63 and 651 all come with 4" tubes.

That rascal really is old,a bobbed hammer as well.It just illustrates how long a quality firearm will provide service to its owner while becoming a trusted companion. With the new generation of .38 special +P ammo these little J-frames become viable defense weapons.

My wife's favorite revolver is my S&W 60-4 with a 3" underlug barrel and adjustable sights. We tried all kinds of grips. We even gave the Tyler grip adapter a try but eventually settled on the Herrett Shooting Stars for all of our J-frame guns. After much testing and using different state of the art ammo over the years,we've settled on the Hornady +P 110 grain FTX Critical Defense #90311.

Thanks for the pictures CB.
