That's good to know. It seems they are the only ones who have it in stock. What's going on with Sog. I will be ordering one. Thanks again

Where can I get one? Niether Amazon nor Sog has it available. Has anyone ordered from this site before? http://m.academy.com/shop/pdp/sog-switchplier-2-0-multi-tool/pid-1504132?deviceType=true

That's where I bought mine.  Very smooth transaction.

Still extremely happy with my SP 2.0, btw.  :tu:

Nate, Switchplier vs Minigrip.... thoughts? How do they stack up against one another?

The Minigrip still has the best pliers IMO because of the head shape, but the funky lock makes it pop open at inconvenient times.  Also, the SOG just carries so well, that it makes up for the lack of OHO blades and fewer tools (compared to the LM Charge).  If the pliers lock were better on the Minigrip, it would still edge out the SOG.

Basically, I rate them SOG > Minigrip 》Charge

Got it today.  will put it in the ring and see how she holds up. First impression: very compact, light weight, and awesome tool set, I just wish it had scissors. Otherwise it's a good start.

The first one could take scissors (I've fitted SOG scissors in mine) so there's no reason that I can see why you can't fit them in this. Remember, they are meant to be customised without voiding warranty, and the scissors are available as an aftermarket addition from SOG or dealers

The switchplier has been with me the last couple days and seen much variety. Yesterday she helped me with change my brakes, used while wearing gloves, rode in jeans and sweatpants (carried well in btw), went to work with me today, cut stranded and solid wire, used the blade and awl for light task, pliers feel really good to use thanks to being spring loaded. I must say this is a very good tool.

The main "flaw" I have is a good and bad thing. The plastic may or may not hold up in time, but it does make the tool much lighter. The wire cutters work better on solid wire but struggle with stranded wire. Compound leverage would've been nice, but you can't have it all. Thus, the cutters work when need but are not the best in the league. Once I replace the file with scissors, this will be a good urban carry tool. After the last couple days the switchplier has definatly earned a spot in my collection

Scissors take up two long slots, while SP2.0 only has one long slot on each side of pliers, not sure if you can fit scissors in.

It's worth a shot. Thanks for the heads up. I haven't tinkered with sog tools before.

Edit:
Is it two long slots or just two slots all together. Example: the powerlock has four "long" tools one of them being scissors. Is that five long slots or four long slots with the scissors taking one extra small slot?

I hope that made sense

well, scissors are made of two blades, so How is it going to work if two blade are not together?  :twak:

It says large tool, far left, two slots, not two long slots. And I'm guessing the second slot would be for the spring (which is shorter than the scissors themselves) ergo making it able to fit in a small slot, I had planned on removing can opener and file. So let's reserve the :twak: until it has been tried. :tu: thanks for the link tho. That is helpful. :salute:

The scissors should fit in the file slot.  That's where I put the wire strippers.  Works great.  :)

Aren't the black scales made from a hard plastic? I could be wrong, but It doesn't seem like steel, unless it is a very light and thin steel.

Not sure what Demel is talking about, but I can assure you that on my SwitchPlier, the scale are definitively metal (also tested that it is ferromagnetic) and pretty thick.

You are right. I just assumed because of the weight it was plastic. After looking closer it is metal. That is even better. Sog has done great with this tool

Picked one up a few weeks ago, I like it. It has a very good tool selection, and the tapered end makes for a more comfortable use of the tools. Had to ditch the godawful combo blade that SOG makes though, put in a plain edge one then swapped the sides that it and the file were on.

I just wish it had a better pocket clip, and that SOG would stop plastering their name on every square inch of the tool.

I just called sog to see if they had any in stock. The rep said he spoke to the warranty department and he didn't suggest putting scissors in because they may or may not interfere with the plier head. :-\ I will still order some to test it out.

After using it for a while, I do believe I will replace the blade with__________. It has the perfect setup for a bladeless multi. I'm thinking combing it with a mini vulcan or mini grip. I wanted a knifeless fuse, but this will work out better.

Edit:
Has anyone tried carrying one in a sheath?

Alright, I think I cracked the code too...  "50ft-trad": hope you don't mind but I was too curious to wait for your pictures  :pok:

My current config, from scissors to blade:
  • Scissors
  • thin metallic spacer (1x)
  • Can opener
  • thin metallic spacer (2x)
  • Phillips
  • Bottle opener / Large flat screwdriver
  • Knife blade

Not an ideal set of tools but a good starting point to experiment. Everything opens and closes smoothly and pliers deploy and close as expected. Oh, and you don't even need to deploy the pliers to access the scissors!

For reference, here is the original tool layout (don't remember about any spacer/washer):
  • File
  • Awl
  • Can opener / small screwdriver
  • Phillips
  • Bottle opener / Large flat screwdriver
  • Half serrated knife blade
