91mm SAK with a ... smooth backside

91mm SAK: Is there a back spring that can be swapped out (without mod of the spring or blade) with the main blade backspring, to eliminate backside tools for a ... dare I say it ... a smooth backside?

Nope!   But what you can do is use somethign like the parcel hook and grind it down to fill the space, that would give you close to a smooth look.  Or just leave the parcel hook as is, but it would stick out below the scale bottom a bit.

Ive also put an awl in there and all it needs is a little washer, but if you already have an opener layer you probably dont want two.

How well does that work? How is the snap of the awl? Does it wiggle a bit? I wouldn't mind a setup like that (Compact with awl instead of hook, plus added Cybertool layer for example).

Awl on the blade layer works perfect snap is the same.   The awl on the back of the scissors needs some tweaking but it does also work fine.  With the right size washer there is no wiggle at all.

That's interesting.  I was looking at my Champion with all those backside springs and thinking to myself, "Shirley ... One of them will work."

Even Victorinox themselves sometimes swap back layer tools, no idea if they use washers as well. For example the Whitetail Deer (screwdriver instead of awl) and the (X)XLT where they use a hook in a blade layer I think

Yes one fits. It takes some mod skill though. So no and yes.

You can use a pre-hook scissors layer backspring, but it is not a straight drop in fit. There is a tiny bit of filing to get the blade to sit right. Also you lose the small blade.

I have done this a couple of times to make 91mm Solos.

Also the old mag glass/inline spring works well also .
