What is this thing?
on: August 09, 2015, 05:23:33 PM
Saw it over on BF in their ugliest knives thread (definitely a contender there):

Tried doing a google search on the image and searching for "Real David" multitool, but no luck.

Not that I want to buy one. I really just want to see who would make such a thing and who would sell it

D'oh! LOL

Here's a review:

I guess for a tool that's meant to stay in a range bag, I could deal with how it looks. Here's their pic of it folded up:

I like the look, IMO much prettier than a Skeletool >:D, but that goes to show that taste is different.

I also like that Real Avid is thinking outside of the box and is trying out new shapes/frames :salute:
As I don't own a gun that could use this tool its not interesting for me, but a knife with bits in its frame is always nice.
It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

Can the brusher at the bottom be used as a bottle opener?

I'm just entirely confused by the handles.

What exactly do they articulate? Some sort of crimper?

Those aren't handles - carbon scraper underneath, and a bit driver on top.

It is really ugly, but I bet it works. Real Avid seem to be a "function over form" approach when it comes to their tools. They now have a very comprehensive line-up of tools and knives all aimed squarely at shooting and hunting.

I like multitools that are meant to function with guns. Its a shame the only major company making such tools is Leatherman.

It is really ugly, but I bet it works. Real Avid seem to be a "function over form" approach when it comes to their tools.

I'm a firm believer of the Form follows function principle myself. First you design whatever based on its intended function and then you refine/embellish for aesthetic reasons. Such refinements can also add function. Having said all that, I think I like this thing and I believe it works well, I just wonder if it isn't a little unwieldly.

Maybe you could migrate to the US? Claim a need to seek political asylum because of gun laws in the UK.
