This time, I'm comparing Inova (hey, they're cheap) with Gerber High Beam (same).

The reason I'm not content with my Photon, is because it turned out to be less than indestructible. Oh, it still works, but the covert nose teared up for some reason. If it is removed, the bulb falls out. Meh.

So, what word of mouth (and undercover spam) can you offer me?

Me too.  That's all I carry.  I look at micro lights as a cheap backup light, not something that I need to last for years.

I haven't been able to find a decent fauxton locally.

The ones at the dollar stores are terrible. I found a flat rectanglular one by Garrity for $6 and and another under the Noma brand at Canadian Tire. I didn't like either of those.

I picked up 2 different "no name" keychain lights at a local Sears. One was a flat rectanglular 3-cell version. It was fairly bright but really cheaply made, so I keep having to open it up and fix it. The whole thing is just going to fall apart with 2 weeks of infrequent use. The other was a metal tube which was sturdier, but not very bright.

Is the only way to get a decent fauxton to buy it online? And are the online fauxtons any better constructed than those ones? I am in Toronto incidentally.

Fauxton usually refers specifically to this one: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.1100

Thanks, I had no idea. I thought it was just a generic term for any cheap Photon knock off.   :D

Why does everyone keep saying they are 50 cents if they cost $5? :o

I like em, I just got a "50" pack for 23 bucks;

inexpensive, reliable, convenient, and for back-up/back-ups sake
not bad. Not to be confused with a reg-long lasting light!

The Gerber light looks interesting. How much do they go for?

I used to come here a lot.

Tim has them for $6

I've not tried one.  I've played with the inova one and wasn't impressed.  I'm also not fond of the Photons, don't like the colour of the "white" light and I tend to flatten them through accidental switch on.  For a cheap tiny backup I'd go with the fauxtons, you really can't argue for the money.

I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

Unless the inovas have changed, I wouldn't recomend one. The light is great, but or some reason it turns on really easy in my pocket, as in it turns on all the time. If it wouldn't do that, it would be a great light. I didn't mind my photon freedom, but after I ran down the batteries because it would come on in my pocket :bnghd:, I quit carrying it which wasn't a big deal since it was just a backup light anyway. I think the freedom is an awsome light though.
