So, I am modding my Wave..
on: August 10, 2008, 07:13:06 AM
Hey guys, I just wanted to let you all know that I am making one of the greatest multitools ever. Well, sort of... I am modding my New Wave's one handed blades.. I am replacing the 440 stainless straight edge blade for a 154CM blade and the serrated blade for one with a cutting hook. I can see this going into my EDC rotation easily! I could call it the Warge... Or maybe a Wave XSi. BTW, thanks again Kwak!  Once it is all completed I will seriously look into buying another camera. If I do, I'll take pics of my collections, Bear Gryll's knife, and a few other collections I've got.. Just wanted to let you guys know how much I think I am going to like this tool!

okay, well I'm going to make some tomato on toast.

It's going to be swell!

Just wanted you all to know!

I don't approve of your Modering!
There you go, mingling with the common man "Oh, I just carry a wave, I'm not a fancy-pants snob" and so on and so forth, but in sinister truth you've got premium blade steel & additional features!

I do thusly protest!

Also: I got a Surge, and so far my review has been SCATHING, so pants to you.

(Welcome back from camping, by the way)

That's great, LM123! Let us know how it goes.

What are the advantages to this Wave mod over just getting a Charge? I ask because I have neither and am torn about which one to get.

When cost is taken out of the equation, pretty much everyone here seems to favour the Charge. This mod seems to imply that at least some people prefer the Wave housing over the Charge's?

He just thinks it looks like a cute little sister to his Surge. Something to keep him entertained when he doesn't have the real deal in his pocket.

If I were you, I'd get the Charge. The handles are far more comfortable.. I am doing this because it will be cool and I am going to use it hard..

Oh, and so far, I broke some security torx bits and buggered up the pivot pins..  :(  But, it will turn out well!

I understand. Well, best of luck with it!

I suppose you can always buy more bits, but I hope the pivots are salvageable...?

Take a couple of photos of the process if you can.  ;)

I assumed that people were downgrading Charges with Wave blades in the process, which seemed like a strange thing to do...  ???

Good luck with your Mod LM123. I hope everything works out for ya. I have been carrying my Modded Wave for awhile now and have had no complaints.

wonder if one could make their own higher grade steel blades for their multis should they have a machine shop? Just disassemble the tool and copy the blade maybe?

i have quite good skills and place to do that kind of things with cnc machining centre, laser cut machine, lathe, mill and so on.it would be nice to try to make a blade for one leatherman.

im building my own multi between huge titanium scales,so all kinds of mods u talk here are very intresting.

Sounds like a great job LM123,and I like the mod Prime77 did with the blast philips screwdriver,I would also like to see an awl inplace of the eyeglass screwdriver, then it would be my EDC.

So like I said, my mod is all completed. I have a New Wave with a 154CM blade and a serrated blade with cutting hook. I had to file down the liner on the 154CM blade so the lock would engage properly. I really like this tool and I'll make a thread about it soon!
