pipedreams' Nov. Juice Challenge - CS4
on: November 01, 2015, 02:50:56 PM
I wake this morning 4 hours from home in a hotel in Wichita Falls, TX. I'm here with my daughter on a college visit - she's a superstud track/XC runner. So, as I load my pockets for the day I drop my beloved Vic. Troubleshooter in my bag and replace it with the CS4.

As I stated in th sign-up thread, I don't really love the Juice line (I own a CS4 and an S2), but I've never really given one a fair shot. So, here we go. Wish me luck. (:

I wear scrubs for work 4 days per week. The CS4 is a bit heavier than my usual work EDC. The sheath should help keep the weight on my hip and not dragging my pants down.

No need to go find a key for the TP dispenser. Medium flat driver has it covered.

Early challenge thoughts:

Pros: very nice drivers, sharp main blade

Cons: scissors not so great, dull awl

I should have picked a tool with a file. I use one quite a bit. I've not cheated and used another tool with a file, but I've bummed an emory board a couple of times from the ladies in my life.

Plastic strapping. Easy task for the Juice's (ugly, weird shaped) blade.

What Juice one has a file?  You can always sharpen the awl up some!  :)

No problems with the padded envelope, or were you a chicken and did cut where there is no padding? :pok:

The KF4, Pro, and X-whatever have files. I'd like a KF4, but can't find one reasonably priced, so far. I have sharpened the awl and the opener.  :tu:

I cut above the padding. The scissors definately have some limitations.

I'd say your scissors are doing better than some. ;)  I've seen quite a few Juices over the years and there seems to be quite a big variation in how well they work.  Seems to be very much in the lap of the gods if you get OK ones or not.

I agree that the blade is ugly and weird but actually fine for cutting things.

I don't generally use a MT to cook, but it seems to be something members here like to see. Venison, onions and garlic for chili. It worked OK.

Spring popped off the jaw hinge of my (other) skull. The fine tips of the Juice's pliers were the perfect tool to put it back in place. And, yes, it is a real skull.
