Victorinox...luggage?
on: November 10, 2015, 07:26:17 PM
Can't help noticing Victorinox makes some very decent looking luggage - at ridiculous prices.
Random examples:
Small sports bag - 169 euros
laptop bag- 229 Euros
Carry-on flight case - 269 Euros

etc.

Since you can get the equivalent from Samsonite, Eastpak etc for ca. a quarter of the price, does anyone actually buy this stuff? And why, when their pocket knives are so reasonably priced, are they charging an arm and a leg for luggage?

Victorinox luggage sells because it holds up. The cheap stuff doesn't. As usual you get what you pay for. My sister-in-law is a major 'road-warrior' and has regularly used Victorinox. I had a Samsonite that broke a lock three trips in a row. Switched to Travel Pro, which I had good luck with for many years. Broke a handle on it earlier this year; the case was so old spare parts were no longer available. Looked at Victorinox, Travel Pro and Eagle Creek. Got a good deal on an Eagle Creek and went with that.

I don't use the Victorinox luggage (I use the family luggage which consists of several cheap replaceable stuff) but I regularly use a briefcase (Trevi, around 300-350€ during 2008) for work, a drop shaped monosling (over a decade, my EDC bag), a backpack for traveling, an electronics container and have in reserve a newer monosling, another backpack amd a retceted mini backpack/funnypack/monosling. They are the best thing in the world, I tell you.

yeah, they look great... and you don't see the Victorinox logo very often at the airport carousel, so it would make life easier for air travel. I just can't see myself spending several hundred bucks on a rucksack!
Maybe I'm just a cheapskate.
After all, I reckon the Victorinox Bantam is their best pocket knife! Cheap and functional!

Victorinox luggage may be high priced, but if my better half is any judge, it's great stuff. My better half, Karen, Bought a new Victorinox suitcase years and years ago. It has about 100,000 thousand miles of air and airport terminal travel on it. Karen traveled a lot on her job, and that rolling suitcase has been to more countries than a Secretary of state.

About three years atom a wheel broke. Karen got a big box and shipped it to the Victorinox repair place in Connecticut. About a month later, it comes back, cleaned up, and with all new wheel assemblies on it. Good for another 100,000 miles now!

Victorinox stands behind their products!!!!
Don't get too serious, just enough will do.
