Don't think I've ever washed Rice
In a colander with plenty of fresh water running through, no special number of times to rinse or anything. I just continue till the water seems more or less free of starch. My favourite is basmati, but I usually eat jasmine or whatever long-grain rice I can find in the store. I really like brown rice as well. Brown rice feels like a staple food, basmati something you eat Sundays.
Yum rice. I like all kinds and all mentioned. I rinse mine a few times in the container I cook it in. I typically use a rice cooker for white rice, easy peasy. I do have to say that I'm not eating rice much anymore tho. Kinda been cutting my carb intake and eating more plant based diet.

Trivia: since a young age, one of my favorite concoctions has been a mixture of white rice, butter, canned corn and Worchestershire. Its something I think I made up, but its quite tasty.
[...] I read an article somewhere just recently about how rice should be cooked in water that is always being washed through because otherwise it just concentrates the arsenic and other nasty stuff that is found in rice grains.
By washing it, it will stick less and get a nicer texture.
wash the rice ? ok . . . . before or after i cook it ? (seriously)
so, whats the best way to cook rice then ? I just throw on a pot of water, boil the rice and drain it - i haven't poisoned my kids or myself (yet) so how wrong am i doing it ?
If you haven't had it try Minnesota wild rice.http://www.mnwildrice.com/riceinfo.htm(Image removed from quote.)
Quote from: Steinar on January 01, 2016, 12:29:01 PMBy washing it, it will stick less and get a nicer texture. I studied Tae Kwon Do many moons ago [<< that was almost a Sun Myung Moon pun], and the Korean family who taught it preferred super sticky rice. It made the rice clumpy, and thus easier to pick up with chop sticks.
My rice cooking techniques came from the Filipino culture. Calrose rice was mostly used and typically cooked in a rice cooker. The thing I didn't understand early on was how my Filipino friends measured the rice to water after washing it. Anyone see how Filipinos measure the rice to water? Pretty neat and possibly done in other cultures tho I'm not aware.
