Has anyone ever put a SOG plier head into a Leatherman tool?

I was looking at this for compound leverage reasons and was wondering if anyone had succeeded in doing this.

The leverage is in the handles not the head.  Also as a guess the handle ends of the SOG pliers aren't shaped right for the slip joint.

The other thing is it might conflict with other tools the SOG heads are really long.

  • Nothing's typical around here
The problem with that idea is that you'd have to find a way to get the SOG pliers to "engage" the handles, as there isnt a ramp on the SOG pliers like the Leatherman ones have.

Besides, the SOG compound leverage effect is acheived by the plier pivots (the ones attached to the handles) being offset from the handle pivots (gears)

So I guess that is why know one has put the SOG leverage into a Leatherman wave tool, different designs.

I don't have a PPP but no way can a wave head fit in a powerlock without a lot of spacers, it might be possible to do it with a core though.

Never knew how small the wave was compared to the powerlock.

I didn't either until I got one. I always thought the diesel was the biggest on the block....boy was I wrong.

The short answer is I have two, one is green the other yellow so I know which is which.

I don't have one to compare. But I would assume they are close.

That it's not possible is a bit of a truth with modification. Or rather, it needs lots of modification to have a chance to get it to work. User jlwatso1 has started something like this in his Surge badge thread (probably got a taste for the wire stripper and compound leverage from the SOG Power challenge). I don't think he's finished though.

Most certainly not a straight drop-in though.

Good point had not thought of it that way.

But I think that with mods there is a point of diminishing returns.  Jlwatso1 did/is doing what I would do make a custom handle, although it seems like a lot of effort for the compound leverage. With leatherman tools
