The Unkindest Cut of All
on: August 10, 2016, 05:03:19 AM
I'm great at sharpening knives...

But being careful...not so much.
I had just put a RAZOR edge on my Opie Garden Knife and confirmed it by slicing thin curls on my test paper...

Laid the paper down, turned slightly to do...something (I don't remember what now) and that cool leather lanyard on the Opie caught on one of my bags and jerked the knife out of my hand.....

Man, that edge was perfect, I wasn't even holding the knife very tight and it still did a job on my thumb.

Grabbed some paper towels, applied pressure and got the bleeding stopped (sorta) in about 30 mins. slapped a big bandaid on it, backed it up with another one to prevent loosening and kicked back and watched it start to bleed through.   :2tu: A vinyl exam glove will keep the blood off the keyboard etc., till I get this posted....

Here's the accident scene photo and the kit I used to fix my finger!  I need a beer...

Actually beer or any alcoholic beverage may not be a good idea at that moment. Alcohol widens the venes (that is why it's a no-no if you're moutaineering in winter; it causes you to lose heat much easily) and may increase your bleeding.

In any case, I wish you a quick recovery :(  Don't forget to apply for the badge ;)

Some instant glue might help you.

So might a trip to your local clinic or ER for some stitches.   :ahhh

I hope you heal up quickly and cleanly man- and as soon as we get a first aid badge put together, it's yours!

  Thanks guys!!!!  You have me smiling this morning (Sponge Bob and duct tape :D ). My finger's better. it didn't bleed much overnight. It doesn't hurt much either...in fact, the arthritis in the joint next to it hurts worse this morning.

I'll be fine. :2tu:

PS, I had the Opie #12 out checking it's edge before all this happened.     :sa:

Not much to know....

Engineered the specs, designed the prototype, produced the prototype, test marketed it here and discontinued project due to poor response from test market...

Item History
Prototype was dismantled, Songebob items returned to my junk drawer and pioneer/necker returned to collection.
Total expenditures $0
Time spent 6 min

Keep your hand elevated, to decrease blood pressure. Avoid using it (less muscle work, less pressure).

1. Use warm water to remove the band aid, so as not to have it pull the skin.
2. Sterilize the wound, clean it weel and just let the band aid hold the cut shut.
3. If WoundShut=False GoTo 1.
4. Resume daily activities.

Hope you heal well and fast!

(Edit: changed the order of tasks, this makes more sense now)
