Am I missing something? Why has this a knife gotten so many bids? Isnt this a fairly common pattern, made in fairly large numbers?

I paid $6 for mine at a church parking lot sale a couple of months ago. Doesn't have a bail though.  I guess that's what the other $175 is for.

Nah, I think it's 'cause of the 4 exclamation marks after "Look"...

No wonder I didn't see it while cruising through da Bay - used "Look!!!!" instead of "L@@K!!!!" which would have gotten my attention. I think the dating of it is correct - the bail and the awl.

L@@K  :D  at the bid history. Eight total bidders. About four hours before it closed, one bidder put in 15 bids in about 2 minutes, nibbling away at the high bidder. Same dude came back a half hour later and put in 5 more bids in about 20 seconds. That's 20 of the 32 bids - 2/3rds of them - from one bidder. He may have had multiple bid submission browser windows open already set up with the last five bids to do it that quickly. I'm guessing it got so high four hours before closing that anyone who had an automated bid snipe set up failed because it wasn't higher than the current highest bid in the last few seconds of the auction. The other 12 bids are spread across the other seven bidders, which is much more normal.

That explains it! Must have been all 300 of them vying for that one knife!

It is in VGC  and very nice - Bail, old awl etc!
Although not near mint!! And not great pics either (bad focus)

It's also quite an unusual knife in that it has the old awl but hidden rivets - Vic said both those features changed in 1961 - We know they did not change at exactly the same time - otherwise we would not have SAKs like this one!! .... And there are a few of them about!

But is it worth $181.50 ???  - Don't think so!!
Also I think the bidder who put all those bids in would have been using that 'auto-bid'  feature from ebay - where it just automatically bids the next increment for you if you click on the button

What's wrong with that picture?

Errrmm ??? Nothing ???
- I can tell you quite a lot that is wrong with the knife tho  >:D
