What do you want for Christmas?
on: November 26, 2016, 04:15:25 PM
No, I'm not offering to buy you lot anything. :P  However I am curious as to what's on everyone's wish list.   I'm all but certain that my wife has gotten me a Swanndri Ranger Shirt that I've fancied buying for years but have never quite pulled the trigger on.  From all I hear it's a top bit of kit that fits my outdoor ethos very well and the fact Ray Mears endorses them doesn't do their credit any harm either. ;)

Here here.  What few things I "want," I can get whenever I find a good enough price, provided I don't lose interest in them first; what I would like in terms of big ticket items, I'll never be able to afford, anyway, provided I don't want to work forever to pay them off (ie a new car, which I hopefully won't need for a good while longer, and a small house to call my own).

Good health, family, the roof over our head and some honest to goodness peace (hard to find these days).

And I wish the same for everyone here

Pretty much my sentiments with a exception of the "new" car.  I've been looking for a second vehicle but I refuse to pay what their asking for a Tacoma.  I don't really want much or for that matter need much.

I'm going thru a purge phase and should be nicely purged by years end.

World peace and LM crunch. But as I doubt those, I am happy just spending time with family. And see when kids get some of they wishes. Also some good food. White christmas and clear sky.

We could have that. We're closer to someone being crazy enough to launch a nuke than any point in the last quarter century. If everyone thinks it's a good idea what isn't glassed will be irradiated and pasteurized, and in a few years under 30m or so of ice. With no one left, no one to argue about things. Or get sick. Or be poor. Or be hungry.

I'll settle for the state of the world not getting worse. Or more radioactive.

The only reason why I say a new car is that I will eventually need to replace mine; I have a 2001 Honda Accord with not quite 140,000 miles on it, so I figure that should my trend of replacing cars stay consistent, I can rationalize splurging on a $18-20k car once every 15+ years.  Admittedly, I don't plan on replacing my car any time soon; its the same reason I wear ten year old dress shoes, what I buy typically wears out very slowly because I attempt to take at least decent care of my stuff.

Long story short:
flea market
dude has a stand where he sold dozens of awesome tools, many in new condition, TSA seized.
was on budget since we just bought a house so picked 1 tool I wanted.
She decided to buy it for me as christmas gift.
Cleaned and polished it that evening.
She gift wrapped it with me in the room, since I know it anyway.

I hope the dude is back in march, if so, I'm gonna go buy half his stand.

I'll settle for Firefly Season 2.

For me, short list:
Cure for biliary atresia that does not involve a liver transplant (daughter born with it, no bile ducts)
A Buck Mark .22lr, because they look fun to shoot
A sleep schedule for both munchkins, where they go to bed at 8:00 PM, independently, and don't wake up until 6:00 AM, at the earliest
A travel mug with a built in French press. Bodun makes it. Found it the other day, and is realistically the only thing on this list I will get :)

I've got my eye on one of these Contigo travel mugs.

Genuinely non-spill top means you can carry it like a thermos, but can drink from it on the move without having to decant into a small mug or whatever.  My wife's got one and if it wasn't in raspberry pink I'd be stealing it all the time.  :D

I have something almost exactly like that except there's a hole in the guide part.

Came highly recommended, but that hole means your coffee grind will always but always end up in the coffee.......utterly useless, and I confirmed all the ones they had are like that

My niece to have a safe birth of her first child, and that her and her boyfriend have a good 2017. She's had a lot of problems through the pregnancy, but it looks like it's finally going to be ok and the baby (a girl) is due early in the new year. Her and her boyfriend have a had a stressful year, but things have calmed down now and he has also got himself a stable job now. Hopefully the bank of Uncle Kev can close for a while and recover.

for me...

My family asked what I would like so I gave them a list of Dremel bits, New slippers (mine have just about had it but not buying any myself in case someone gets me some for xmas), The new call of duty and the new tomb raider games for my xbox one and socks. I seem to wear holes in my left socks really quickly, probably because of the way I walk with my wazzy legs and walking stick.

Edit:
and walking stick rubber ferrules. I go through 1 about every 3 weeks so always need them.

Now that's a great wish.  Same goes for tiger claws, snow leopards and any other random bits of endangered animals for totally spurious medical mumbo-jumbo.

I'd also like a power-file. 8)
