I probably have one of the larger collections here, but have recently been paring back to just 84mm and 91mm. I have some very rare 74mm items, some old exposed rivet 58mm, and almost all of the custom Alox stuff from a couple years back but am considering selling all of that. Even in my 91mm collection I have some stuff that is extremely rare and some that is extremely common - one of the main things I enjoy is seeing the evolution of the knife. As a result, I have about 40 different Huntsman/Woodsman models from 1905-present and again as many Tourists from 1897-present. So my larger collection becomes something of a bunch of mini-collections. I love models with technician screwdrivers so I have a bunch of those, for example. They have been making SAKs for almost 120 years in hundreds of different variations. You'd go mad trying to collect one of each. This is what I like about SAK collecting - there's no "standard" collection. You carve out a little niche for yourself and enjoy. Some people like advertising knives, some 111mm, some old Wenger knives. Define your niche and collect away.
I don't have a particularly large SAK collection myself but I agree to just collect the ones that you fancy and you will be quite happy with that colllection I have several standard models and a few that are discontinued and even a few alox So collect what you like and I am sure we all would love to see pics of it
Am a collector with no niche... I collect what I see and like... my collection ranges from 58mm all the way up to 111mm... some are old versions, rare/diacontinued and existing models...Sadly no 100mm and 120mm/130mm in my collection yet.. I also collect non-tool victorinox stuff... can be seen here:http://forum.multitool.org/index.php?topic=67579As a collector, am in that stage where it is hard to let go of stuff...Fancies of late are 93mm colored alox, Soldier 1961, 108mm and Spirits... actually am currently in the process of closing a deal for a Spirit S BO...One thing is for sure, those in my collection are guaranteed shelf queens... custom mods are what I use... If I will use a standard model, I buy 2... one for collection and one for use...
I'm in the process of selling my shelf queens. I've found my niche, that's Classics (and I'll keep many others for use).

I know someone here does.I'm in the process of trying to find some shelf queens, but I decided I don't want too many of them.
I too only want what I like, but my tastes revolve more around usage than desirability. I do have a few "collectables", but my meagre array is insignificant compared to the majority of collections here. Not everything I own wins pocket time, so I'll be thinning out further in the New Year. I don't get enough pleasure from ownership alone, so if they don't win pocket time, they're no good to me.

I may thin out a few, but that's always difficult for me, so I'm trying to take it slow and not buy too many.

I don't have a lot of disposable income to buy SAKs. I really don't even consider myself a collector. I don't own any old or rare models, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't love to. I buy what stands out to me as usable. It's got to be something I would carry and use. The most I've ever dropped on a SAK is about $80. I had a difficult time when it came to making that decision. I'm going to carry and use the hell out of it. I find some of the older models you've posted pics of very desirable, but I'd want to use it. That does me no good. I can buy a current model that does all the same things and pay a lot less. The only SAK I own that doesn't get carried was my grandpa's camper. Sorry if I rambled.
The basic rule of collecting is to collect what you like. Also keep things in perspective, and don't let the collection interfere with more important things.
