A new knife...
on: October 06, 2008, 03:26:52 PM
Well today has been a great day  :).  Not only did I do my first MT mod (see here http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,7116.0.html) but I also received my first custom blade which can be seen below;

The blade is made by a well known UK maker known as Shing.  His work is very impressive, but also very expensive  :o.  This one popped up at a good price though so I jumped on it;

The blade is made from O1 which is clearly marked on the blade;

The scales are Walnut and have red liners.  The handle is quite chunky which feels very nice to hold;

Here is a pic to give an idea of size;

The sheath is made by BB member Rapidboy and is superb  :).  It holds a lot of the blade and the handle so it will be very difficult to lost the knife whist carrying it in the sheath;

So far I am very impressed with the quality of this knife and I am very pleased with my purchase.  :)  Once I have finished drooling over it I will be sure to report back on how it performs.

I'm back!!

I love scandi grinds! Where can I find more info on the maker?  If that knife was in D2 it would be the exact knife I've been looking for. May I ask a price range? I just want to get an idea of what it might cost to get one myself.   :cheers:

Nice one Ben , that looks very nice and Shing is very well respected . I used to have a Joel C Bolden Custom but I gave it to a friend who I knew would use it .To be honest I get more enjoyment knowing he uses it then what I got from owning it .

Not sure if the blade shape is really me, but I'm not trained in proper use of knives, to me they're more like small axes  :D

But why is vinegar preferable to the other methods of rust prevention? :o

Vinegar is also used to Grey out a carbon blade. I actually coat all my carbon knives with mustard(very high in Vinegar) and leave it for a while. Gives it a cool greay color.

I always fancied a Shing knife and the Rapidboy sheath is a great bonus.  I just never had the pennies.

That's a nice looking blade.  As others have mentioned I like the simplicity but it still looks quality. Nice indeed.

I've never made a custom fixed blade, I think I should. Its on my project list but so is a huge pile of other stuff I haven't time for  :-\

Neil
I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

I just stumbled across this...

Beautiful knife/sheath combo there Ben!  Thanks for the scale pic, I would have never guessed it was that large.
