Surge Mods - making it mine
on: May 08, 2022, 07:21:25 PM
I made a few mods to a ebay used Surge I just got. Picked up a 2nd gen Wave there about the same time but finding that I much prefer the Surge.

First mod was to add the Micro-driver to the "driver" side of the handle.

Then I swapped in the bottle/can opener wire stripper in for the small screwdriver and then made the large screwdriver a pry bar with a different grind.

Need to do some clean up on the blades, but in general this is how I wanted to set an everything tool up for me.

Sorry, I suck at posting pictures here I guess. I will try to clean that up.

Looks like the image link does not work and the attachment comes out huge.

Nice mods! Don't worry about the attachments looking huge, they appear normally when clicked on.

If you want to use a hosting site instead, make sure that the link ends in something like .jpg and when writing the post highlight the link and click 'Insert Image' (below the Italics button) to wrap it in the correct HTML  :tu:

Yea, these were quick and easy. I want to do some more extensive modding, but I am just beginning. I am replacing my gun/reloading hobby with something that I can afford - and find.

I have begun picking up parts and tools off eBay to begin my new addiction.

Definitely a great start :tu:

A lot of the times it is cheaper to buy whole tools and canabilize them for parts instead of just buying parts :salute:

You end up with washers, pivots and other things you end up needing :tu:

Yea, I am noticing that. I have been pretty lucky on most parts I have picked up. They have not cost that much. I scored one of the black serrated gut hook blades last night for $11. However, for most things I see what you mean. I am keeping an eye out of different tools.

Hi!
This is small, but logical mod, i think!
I look at my Surge and see that there is a washer between the opener and the large bit holder. Did you carry that washer along with the can opener? Or is it now between the big bit holder and the small bit holder?

I will double check when I get home, but I think I ended up putting one on both sides of the opener.

Yes, I did end up putting a washer on both sides of the opener to fill up space.

Thank you!
Did you need an extra washer for this? Or did you have enough of those that are already in Surge?

No, I needed a spare. Luckily I have a pretty good stock of small nuts and washers so that was not an issue. I am now thinking that there may almost be enough room to add in a package opener in place of those washers.

You can try to little adjust thickness, if you have a grinder )

Yep that is the plan. I need to find a way to grind it flat though. That ends up being the harder part.
