If you saw it open and then inhale the gas you might be in trouble. Otherwise they're safe and probably good for ten years of light.

I'd want a brighter one really. Actually I'd like some of the smaller brighter vials for inserting into stuff.

This is brighter. http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.11428

There is maxium amount of tritium you can cram into a given volume due to envelope pressure I think, so that limits how bright it'll be.

If you just want them for *ahem* inserting, you can buy bare glass tubes.

reminds me of old glow-in-the-dark paint. It glowed because it was radioactive.

I don't think there are any radioactive paint. :o Glow in the dark is totally different from radiation fluorescence.

uranium was an ingredient in old-fashioned glow in the dark paint. If you find something that says otherwise, please tell me, because this information I have read in just about any article about uranium I have seen, including those in museums.

I don't suppose you happen to know of a source? Preferably in the EU? :)

It's plastic shell, I don't think you can bust it unless you really try.

Nope just a little plug on the big ones. I actually pit a dab of epoxy so it would not fall out.

uranium was an ingredient in old-fashioned glow in the dark paint. If you find something that says otherwise, please tell me, because this information I have read in just about any article about uranium I have seen, including those in museums.

Radium (radium-226) was used as an ingredient in radioluminescent paint used by the military, and commercially. In the late 50s when all things radioactive were discovered to be harmful to a human body the practice stopped and a move eventually was made towards safer tritium which is radioactive gas enclosed in a glass vial and sealed. Tritium will glow for 10 years (half life) after which it's luminescence will decrease to 50%.

I didn't know the little glow sticks were legal in US. Last I looked them up (been a while) they were EU only item due to restrictions. Tritium is permitted here in watches and gun sights etc..
