How do they do it on Discovery.
on: November 29, 2008, 05:42:22 PM
Just finished watching a episode of How do they do it on Discovery. And they visited what must be Mecca for some of you, namely the Victorinox factory. It was nice to se where they make them and how they do it. Some fun facts for you. You get 100 000 knife blades out of 1 Ton steel and it takes ca 2 minutes to assemble a SAK by hand
There is no problem that cannot be solved by the use of high explosives.

I saw that episode. I forgot, did they show you how they inserted the rods to hold the peices in place, and in reverse, how to disassemble them without ruining the rods?

I have no idea if it’s  online or not, but I guess it will surface soon.

They did show how they put the SAK together butt it’s all done with a machine, there is just a person that puts the parts in the right place and order................

everything is machine-made nowadays...
it's so hard to find good, hand-crafted quality items nowadays.

SAKs are of great quality. In some instances, it may be better than handmade stuff!

For once the machine made does seem to be the way to go  ::)

At least it's so for SAKs :D Unless it's rehand made by an expert like Scibeer or another of his caliber :tu:

This is called a Swiss Army Knife. Do you know what Switzerland is? Switzerland is a place where they don't like to fight, so they get people to do their fighting for them while they ski and eat chocolate. - Larry David

Just so as you British chaps know, this episode of "How do they do it?" was on Discovery this morning.  The programming being what it's like, there seems every chance it'll be repeated a good few times.  Well worth catching a look if you can.

I finally got to see this episode on "How Do They Do That" a little different from the "How It's Made" episode,
they covered stuff the other didn't, both good and I still wish longer! :twak:

I just remembered "Modern Marvels" had a SAK episode "Knives, Swords and Axes" a while ago,
so that's 3 SAK shows.
