I made a lightbox and took some pics
on: September 07, 2018, 12:00:41 AM
Hi everyone
today i remembered about some translucent paper i had in one of my drawers, so i decided to create a light box to make some amateaur product images. Here is the result. :)
[i'm not a professional photographer, i did it just for fun, more to test the light box than  to take pics of SAKs. Actually i didn't even clean them, so there fingerprints and dust]

Interesting, yeah post some pics please! I’ve found that my arch light works good, just throw something down and some type of background, nothing perfect but still good..

I'm interested in knowing the set up
You say Speedlite's
Are you using canon DSLR ?
Is one speedlite on camera as Master and the other as Slave?

Once the dark evenings arrive I intend to throw myself into photographing my collection. I'm all kitted up, just too busy to play at the minute..... :ahhh
I don't claim to know it all, but what I do know is right.

hello everyone and thank you,
i'm finally home so i could take some pics.

The paper i used is this translucent thick paper for drawing:

Out of it i made a cube without one face and i clamped a white thick paper sheet (you can do it much stronger and nicer and foldable and etc etc):

The setup then it's quite simple. 2 speedlites on the sides and the camera in front. I used my olympus em10mkII just because it has the integrated flash. (technical stuff: the speedlites are in slave mode and completely manual. I used the integrated flash to trigger the speedlights and give a bit of front fill light. I could have used any other camera and use a trigger cable or a wireless trigger but with the integrated flash is much comfortable):

Here is an example of what happens (i actually triggered the lights with another camera, the one taking the picture, so there is no light coming from the camera on the table):

I hope that's clear enough :)

Nice setup, I just might have to make something similar..
Here’s what I do for a half decent pic, not the best but still somewhat clear, I threw in the mini skid for giggles since you put the little piece of wood..

I like arch lights. I never tried one but I guess you can get some really nice highlights reflection. I use the speedlights because they are small and powerful but sometimes it’s difficult to have some nice shadows or a smooth light of they are not bounced somewhere or softened with umbrellas or soft boxes.

Omg I love it, 2yrs ago I never even heard of them. But I did my research and made myself one because I do models and need light, and I must say with all those lights from every angle take all the shadows away!

I like the resulting photos from your DIY light box.. Now for the fun part...try different light sources such as flashlights and possibly different coloured acetate cells if you have them. Experimentation is the fun part of photography.
