I had to bring my kit home today and noticed that the OG Surge is in a terrible state  ::) :twak:

I'm back to work on Monday and need to give it some TLC. Does anyone have some tips for cleaning etc.  :dunno:
I don't have the tools to take it apart, nor the ability to reassemble it  :surrender:

Your expert advice and wisdom is appreciated  :hatsoff:

You can open most of the tools up and run it through a dish washing cycle if you have a dishwasher :salute: If not then run hot water un a sink with washing up liquid, agitate the water and let it soak. Repeat the process and scrub it with a toothbrush this go round  :tu: after that, dry it and take some compressed air (canned or air compressor) and get all the water out then lube it back up

You don't have to follow the first step of the soak but it does deep clean it a little more with the soak :tu:

I'll whack it in the dishwasher tomorrow and go and buy a "can of air"

Any favoured lube (I said favoured, not flavoured in case "you know who turns up?)

Just some 3 in 1 oil. The dry lube type is good as it seems wax based and makes the whole tool feel silky smooth :like: but any type of oil will work

I followed your advice Poncho and stuck the Surge through the dishwasher  ;)

Result: I don't think it's ever been that clean  :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh (thanks for the tip  :tu: )

I couldn't get the 3 in 1 dry lube so I had to use the normal stuff  ::)

The Spartan helped open the oil and then kept the Surge company in the sun  :D

Glad it worked :salute: The oil will keep any residual water left in from forming rust but the sun bathing will help get all the moisture out even better :like:

I've not been on here for a few weeks as work is getting rather chaotic at Heathrow (red list terminals and a distinct lack of staff  ::) )

Whilst at work I gave the OG Surge a sharpening and then it hung out with some friends in the tool room  :tu:

Stay safe out there awl... :salute:

Afternoon awl. I'm not carrying the Surge today as I'm using the OHT for the Daredevil challenge  ;)

However, I collected my new B/O Surge yesterday and it is REALLY stiff (a bit like my joints these days  ::) )

I recently followed advice from Poncho about cleaning my OG S/S Surge and it worked a treat ( Poncho)

Question is; does the B/O stuff hold up in a dishwasher or should I hand wash and use some dry lube  :dunno:

As ever your collective wisdom is appreciated  :salute:

Never ran a BO tool through the dishwasher

Glad it worked with the SS one though :woohoo: I would just use a rag and wipe the tool down and then use dry lube :tu:

 I was thinking the same  I have removed as much of the standard shipping lube as possible  :tu:

However, I wasn't sure if another coating of dry lube would work, without removing the first  :dunno:
