What do you consider your primary tool?
on: December 06, 2008, 09:34:38 PM
It seems to me that people can be catagorized by their primary tool on the EDC.  For me,  I generally prefer pliers for my EDC.  I'll use the wire cutters to cut bale strings rather than pull out a blade.

My wife, she's a knife type.  Cutting, makeshift screwdriver, pry (prise) bar, hoof pick.

She carries a SAK and really works it over.  Me? I've sent my PST back to Leatherman 3 times for warranty repairs (broken small screw driver, snapped off the blade and torqued the plier jaws so badly, the tips didn't overlap at all.)

How about you?

I have to say my knife blade is the most used tool.

Pliers here. However I do use a dedicated knife taht is also carried so if I did not have the second blade on me it would be the blade on the Multi.

I'm going to be predictable and say knife blade too :D

I really hardly ever use the pliers to be honest, that's why i lean more toward saks :)
Give in, buy several Farmer's!!!!!!

Knife blade, then pliers.

Well I probably use a blade the most but it is usually from a plier based MT

So I voted for the pliers ::) I just really like having pliers on me since I started MT carrying and would consider it the primary tool.  Of course it's then the blade and I usually have another knife with me :tu:

Pliers.  There are many ways to "cut" something..but only a few ways to grab something/twist something with force :multi:

It depends, if I pull out my Swisstool, it is primarily for the pliers, sometimes for the various drivers when a bit more torque is required than I feel applying to my SAK.

I believe that I would have to say that during the winter I use the knife more, cutting string, rope, food prep and opening package. In the summer time I think that the pliers are used more as I do Airconditioning service and I carry my leatherman core in the attic with me to cut down on the weight and possble loss of tools while in a dark cramped space. I then use the pliers as my needle nose, wire cutters wire strippers and also the screwdrivers (phillips) and the knife then becomes in last behind the other tools.

If you want to get technical I use a trowel more than anything ::) It is as sharp as a knife after some use so I don't have to pull a blade out when doing certain cutting tasks ;) So on a MT I use the pliers the most :tu:

Knife blade, definitely.  I rarely use pliers, relatively.

Knife blade.  In my last job, as a maintenance engineer, it was the pliers but I hardly every need them now.

Of my EDC, which is a Cybertool 34 and (now) a Boker CLB Trance.... the Phillips or flat-head screwdrivers and the Trance's knife get the most useage.
