No I don't need to carry a MT daily and never have.  I also haven't carried a dedicated folder for a few years or so.  I have carried a MT for a few days here and there to mix up my EDC or to try it out but my needs are pretty basic day to day.  I have carried a sak for over 40 years and is more than enough for my needs.  Most days my sak Explorer doesn't see much use but once in awhile it sees quite a bit, from using the mag lens to help read very fine print to some blade use and even screwdriver use.

I recently put a sak Rambler on my house key/mag lite set and this would probably do me just fine day to day now.  I did this so I could still have the toothpick and tweezers  while I tryout a Rebar as my EDC combo setup to see how that felt and it was fine as far as pocket carry and size wise goes but I didn't really use it so now I went back to the Explorer.  I never leave the house without my house key or Olight especially since it gets dark here around 5:00-5:30 pm now so at least I will have the Rambler with me too.  I don't worry about what if's!

If I do something specific outdoors like a hike or bike ride or something like that I will also grab a MT just in case I need more than a sak since I may be off the beaten path and not close to anything or any dedicated tools!  When I am at home, I don't carry anything on me as I have tools here obviously but of course I have another Rambler in my end table drawer which gets alot of use!

No.

No more than I find it necessary to wear pants.

Society and I disagree on that latter point. So... Since pants need a belt, I might as well carry a multitool on my belt. Because, you know... pants. And society. And society making breakable stuff.

Stupid society making breakable stuff and pants.

I do find it necessary to carry a multitool. No explanation needed!

A SAK ,and a folder is about as light as I ever go . My typical loafing around carry , is a Skeletool CX , more usefull / Usual carry is a Charge + TTI . Workwise , I carry a folder and a Vic.Cybertool 41 , Ihave a slew of real pliers in my pockets , and tool pouch .

I don't find it necessary to carry a pliers based tool everyday.

In my current situation, a SAK is more than fine. If I know I'm going to be getting into something that requires more, I can add a dedicated folder or tool or multi.

I also have a spirit in each vehicle along with a tool kit and a spirit in the house and a garage full of dedicated tools, so I'm never very far from a problem solver.

Yeah, tool requirement/preference is entirely situational, and whether or not you carry some form of MT is affected by what all is in reach (vehicle w/ tools, garage, etc.)

Yes, daily carry a WAVE on my belt for my P/T job doing maintenance at a YMCA.  A 70,000 sq ft facility with 24,000 members.  It is a lot of steps each day, even more if the WAVE was on my belt.

Have dedicated tools in small carry bag for detail repairs, yet 75% are fixed when found.

I also, have a Vagabond/Manager with me every day with coin purse in front left.  When off duty, REBAR or SUPERTOOL 300 are carried.  Along with a Buck knife of 3" or larger.

MTs are stached in bike bag, truck console, SUV console, and shoulder bag/tote for other trips.

BE PREPARED, NO EXCUSES!
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

Always, everyday. You'll never catch me without at least a Classic SD on my keys. I rotate my MTs
from LM Wave>Blast>Rebar>Repeat. :multi: I find the knife blade on my Leatherman to be adequate but I do carry a folder such as my Spyderco or Gerber from time to time.
And Flashlight dont forget the Flashlight! :twak:

Absolutely. I see MTs as your back up. So when you do need it you Really need it.

Well I EDC in my bag a Vic handyman and a Spirit but until now never used. I carry also a micra but for my needs all of these stuff maybe are too much... When mountain biking I never leave home without a LM rebar or mp400. Sometime I prefer rebar for the saw..... From time to time on the trail some tree need to be cut....
When fishing I carry always a Mt, better oho pliers like mp or LM oht..... Basically I need a MT rarely but I carry it ANYWAY....and we all know why :multi:

I've noticed that over the past month, I haven’t really been carrying multitools, but rather folders. I’ve been enjoying a lighter and more convenient blade (even full sized ones) over decent sized multitools, with less than ideal cutting edges.

Whenever I need a tool (i.e. a screwdriver), it seems like its easier to find a dedicated one over compromising with a MT. Being that I always have dedicated tools somewhere, the main appeal of MT’s doesn't seem so... appealing.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on this, and do you find multitools to be an essential part of your carry? Or will a folding knife do all that you need?

:tu:

I live in a big city and work in the office, so carrying a knife (fixed or folding) does not help me much in my daily life (carrying knives is also banned by law here and such tools can be confiscated by police). A MT though, has lots of tools and options for different situations, so I prefer these (or a SAK).

I honestly do not understand people who do not carry multitools.  :tu:
:iagree:
So yes - I carry a mulitool every day - Weekdays it's usually a three layer SAK - weekends - a Juice or Spirit (and a SAK!!)
And everyday I use one or other of the tools on my multi - even if its only the toothpick !!

...... I carried a MT often for doing small tasks, saving the way to the real tools for minor stuff.......
I believe that a multitool is a real tool - Don't you? ???   ;)   :pok:

I usually carry one of my three favorites, but most often my Wave Plus.

When it comes to plier based multi tools, less is more. I dont use pliers enough to warrant carrying between an extra 4 to 8 ounces of metal on my belt daily. Forget pocket carry! I do keep an ST300 in each of our cars, a Rebar in the emergency kit, and typically bring a well used Kick when camping or Scouting.  My Classic and EAB are my typical carry, in addition to a couple miscellaneous bits and bobs, and I don't really feel lacking in my day to day.

Decedied to carry my Juice around the house for a bit.  Really liking it for the pliers, scissors, blade, and phillips.  Those flat drivers tho  :twak:.  Once out they're fine but  :twak:.  I'll be leaving in a bit and will take my Juice CS4.
