With my tax refunds in tow I decided to treat myself to a new Leatherman for EDC. I have a New Wave and really enjoy it, but you never can have too many tools right? So what should I go with? You decide!

Hate to make this difficult but I would seriously recommend either the Crunch or Signal as your next tool, both are great for EDC and each has a very unique tool set that complement the Wave very well. This is especially true for the Crunch.

You have a Wave+ but I would still recommend getting a Charge + in BO :cheers: They really are a nice tool :like:

I agree that  the Crunch is another great choice to get though :cheers:

Another vote for the Crunch  :tu:.

The size of the Crunch makes it perfect for EDC, and as said before, its unique toolset makes it great to carry next to the Wave.

And it has a great fiddle factor  :D.

I'd try something that compliments your Wave. Maybe a keychain sized tool like the Style CS or Micra.

My votes goes towards:

- LM Surge: based on own experience, I think it’s the best LM I have owned so far. I have not managed to find a task for it that it was too weak or light-duty to handle, the thing is seriously build like a tank.....and a Tiger 2 tank at that. I can only say positive things about the Surge, and I think it will be a great thing to get as your next LM, especially if you want something more beefy than the LM Wave.

- LM Crunch: based on what LM I would myself buy next if I was in the market for a new leatherman. It’s certainly a unique LM and multitool, and you can tell a lot of thought and engineering went into its design, which in itself makes it cool to own, but also it would name an excellent addition to your LM Wave.

My vote was for the Surge. If you like the Wave+, you'll really like the Surge, if the weight isn't an issue. IMO of course.  :)

There is literally no Multi-tool like it on the market. The only reason I don't own one is that it requires no mods to be practically perfect, therefore I'll hold off till I stop having fun with my modding adventures.

For what it's worth, I'll have to agree with GLBM.  The Surge would be a logical step-up.  Especially one in 'black-out'.

Thanks for all the input so far! I am going to sell a bunch of my unused or dust collecting knives and MTs on Friday so that's when I will go out shopping. Updates to follow, in the mean time the poll is open all week so please keep the votes and discussion going!

Surge, but Crunch comes second (and so does Free).  I have a Wave, and love it, but the Surge is not just a big wave!  It's more.  Wave and Surge is like .... Spiderman and Hulk...

Surge and Supertool 300 are too big.  Crunch is too limited in function.  Free is too new to be sure (and likely to be poor quality :-\).  OHT is a one trick pony with a limited toolset.  Charge is nice, especially the BO + model.  Rebar is good too.

Or get a Spirit. ;)

From all my LM's the frequency of usage goes as follows:

1. Wave
2. Surge
3. Rebar
4. Crunch
... followed by smaller and old models

So I've voted for the Surge. I'd also suggest the bit-kit and extender if you don't have them yet  :salute:

Leatherman's build quality seems second-rate to me recently. I would go with a Vic Spirit.

If you must have a LM, then Rebar is a great all-around choice.

Fit and finish on the vic spirit is great..but it's always 2 handed, has a very strange plier that is bad at being either a NN or BN (it's some kind of hybrid) and has the single worst scissor Vic has ever made. I have one and love how it feels, but I never use it over my Leatherman tools. The P4 is probable going to have it beat in opening. But Vic quality is top notch. Also chances of update look like zero.

Although off-topic, but from all MT's I have I like the Spirits plier tip the most.
And I can open its pliers much better one-handed than on the Wave :dunno:

 I voted Free, might as well try Leatherman's latest and self proclaimed greatest. The Surge is very similar already to your Wave. I vastly prefer the Surge to the Wave but I bought a Surge first, so that might have colored my experience.

Well, except for the + part, and the Rebar recommendation.

I much prefer the integral cutters on the Wave/Charge family. The cutting geometry is better, and they don't quite impede the main gripping area as badly. The Rebar suffers the same way on the pliers, and while the implements are quite good (aside from the tapered drivers limiting access to recessed screws, it's a ergonomic disaster, due to being a handful of hotspots. I'd much rather use a Wave/Charge/Spirit/MP400/MP600 for any length of time. The Blast which was discontinued to make way for the Rebar, was a much more comfortable tool to use, in my opinion.

After much debate I plan on getting a P4 from the new Free series with one caveat, I'm going to wait until they are out in stores in June or whenever and see some feedback from members here. For the record I have a Vic Spirit and its a great tool but I don't like the two handed opening of every tool.
