A short video here...
(of the Telluride SAK, not the town...)
Some people wanted to know how the tool action was after all the changes to backsprings, moving tools around, etc...

Nice snappy actions Max  :tu:

Any problems opening a can since the can-opner is on the "wrong" side?

Clears the body on normal tins. May need to go clockwise around bigger tins.  :salute:

Thanks Ron, jph_777  :hatsoff:

I don’t know if I’ll push it out to 4 layers, but should be doable.

It looks like I could use the blade layer with the file or saw so that I could keep the Phillips on the back of layer 2. Would need to reuse the tip rest of the saw’s backspring with a shim, and also shim for saw’s pivot (similar to what I do to include the awl back tool on my Yeoman WS).

Then top layer can revert to normal opener layer with back awl, layer 3 scissors with reshaped backspring for Phillips to lay flat, and layer 4 normal blades.

Could work...  :dunno:

Alternatively, back to 3 layers, Trail Guide with Phillips and corkscrew looks doable too. May just get onto the wish list.  :salute:

Max Stone. You’re hired. Quality work sir. I zoomed in on your cutout for the backside Phillips. Very well done. Nice and clean

Marvelous work chap, looks like it could have come straight out of a factory box.  Much respect for the no doubt long hours and amounts of elbow grease required to achieve such a result

Telluride is one of the best ski mountains in the country, so it's busy year round.  In the photo I posted you can see some of the lower altitude runs that lead directly into town.  Year round tourism (and related real estate) is definitely what pays the bills in town!

Wow - Lovely - Beautiful green ski runs in Summer.

Most ski runs in the Alps in Summer look like volcanic/lunar wastelands !! At least the ones I have hiked around!

PS. I am glad I found out who, or what, Telluride was - I was going to have to look it up!!

Max, after watching your video, I do think this might be my ideal combination of tool choice and size.  How difficult would this be to make for a novice?  I've changed scales but never drilled out a pin.
Thanks
Ike

If you’ve got some DIY experience with small tools (Dremel, etc), then I’d say it’s just a case of diving in. The best is to take a used 2 or 3-layer SAK apart and get to know how the pivots and back springs interact and the different thicknesses of the tools and springs. I’d suggest starting with a well-documented mod like creating the Yeoman, as this does not need reshaping of tools and backsprings. My first few mods were Yeomans and I only had the confidence to reshape tools/springs after doing a few. There’s great info in the Mod forum and you’ll get lots of helpful advice.
