The vintage 111 Problem

Hi everyone,I found a 111 Picnicker，It has grooved corkscrews and a strange tang stamp,I don't understand the meaning of this MOD.DEP.Who can help me? Thank you.

MOD. DEP. = MODELE DEPOSE, which I believe is French for "registered model", something maybe akin to "patent pending".

Perhaps one of our French or French-speaking members can shed further light on it.

FWIW, I purchased this Hunter new around 1988.

These must all be reasonably early 111mm models - with the PAT PEND and features I'd only seen on 91mm models before

Wiki says 111mm came out in 86 and grooved CS finished in 91.

Gladly. Not a great photo, but a great knife. It was favored outdoor/camping knife for a few years. It offers a lot of capability in a relatively thin package.

I checked my --edit, LATE 80's (not early 80's) -- Alpineer and was pleased to see that it has the Mod Dep tang stamp too. 

What I think is really interesting about these early 111 mm models is how cheaply stamped the shield and cross logo is.   It looks like it would last about a week in your pocket.

For sure.  My recommendation is that you look for an Alpineer.  They aren't that expensive yet.  I wouldn't be surprised if you could find one, with a little patience, for 40 bucks or so.
