What are the hot new Xmas multitools?
on: November 27, 2019, 08:13:39 PM
Are there any new models which might be interesting for gifts this year? Either giving or receiving? I tried to think about it in an effort of preemptive wishing to prevent getting real weird stuff, but I kind of draw a blank here. Help!  :dunno:

Lowes and Home Depot didn't have much in the way of Christmas deals.
I knew my wife was a keeper when she transitioned from calling it a knife thingy to a multi-tool.

I don't necessarily mean special deals or anything. Just if there are new multitools this year that stand out as gifts?

Walmart had Mossy Oak gift sets (in about 2 or 3 different camo patterns) including the Mossy Oak MT, an exchangeable blade folder, and a fixed blade for $20. But nothing at all from Gerber, SOG, or the other "good brands" they typically sell or introduce at Christmas.

Gerber  Center Drive Plus came out this year and the main difference is pair of scissors, different blade design and a 100% USA leather sheath.   Gerber Center Drive Plus model number is 30-001417.

Bought this directly from Gerber and I can honestly say this is a fantastic tool and well worth the money.

I think Gerber Centredrive is a size class up from what I'm thinking. Still, nice that there is at least something new this year that is considered gift worthy. I guess a rather slow year overall though.

There was also the Leatherman USA made Free series.  Design wise, this is certainly a cool concept.  You can even add a pocket clip without modifying this multi tool as well.  Speaking personally, unless the multi tool or item in general supports domestic manufacturing/jobs, I am not interested.  My interest in multi tools didn't really happen until this year as well.

Then again there are brands I am just not interested in, so is also a factor.

The Leatherman Free is interesting. A bit bigger and heavier than my normal carry, but certainly an interesting design. It is tempting.

Nobody passionate about anything else from this year? Greatest things since sliced bread, positive surprises, something you'd want to get yourself? That kind of thing?
