This is a little premature but I am going to post it anyways.

I went a head and tore down my previous project The Barrage http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,31736.0.html and got it Cerakoted safety orange. Since we are moving into a new house in a months time, I figure I might get tooled up for some small renos and general purpose destruction/construction.

I am renaming this tool project THE DESTRUCTOCON.

Having a few extra bits from other Surge mods, I am going to swap out the useless can opener with the awl, remove the small bit driver adaptor and put in an additional bit driver. Creating a simliar load out to an ALX but with an awl. The flat bit driver remains for some light prying and also the ST300 head.

Why two drivers? Being Canadian, we pride ourselves on using a Robertson head for most of our screws, the other driver is going to be the standard phillips/flat driver bit.

To complete this set is either a Jason Breeden Rescue or Captain, both of which have been also Cerakoted in safety orange.

Jeff Forbush was kind enough to shoot some photos of The Destructocon and G10 knife scales before he shipped them out. On the left is the Rescue scales, the Destructocon's handles in the middle and the Captain's scales on the right. Here they are to start this project off.

Should be pretty easy when the chassis come back, it's just basic assembly.

DESTRUCTOCON!

OMG that's so badass. Orange Surge with the insert cutter head is my dream LM. Did you get all the tools done or just the chassis?

The Destructocon: IT'S HERE!
Sorry folks, I acutally got this a couple of days ago, but I have been busy!

I finally assembled and shot photos of the Destructocon set!

Cerakoted in Safety Orange:

Leatherman Surge (with a coupla tweaks...you'll see down below), a Spyderco Captain (user blade), USA Robotics Breacher Bar (painted black and Safety Orange paracord wrap), and Ultrafire UF-H1.

Engraved in Microgramma: DESTRUCTOCON!

The Ultrafire is nice because it's incredibly floody for such small light, clips to the fronts of pants/overalls and it's infinitely adjustable for power.

I managed to pick up a used discontinued Captain off ebay with a pretty used blade, the scales were ok, but after a coat of ceramic, they are back up in fresh status.

As you can see, this Surge is no normal Surge...formally known as the Barrage, this modded Surge has yet another configuration, the DESTRUCTOCON!

ST300 plier heads, removed small bit driver/can opener, additional bit driver replaced. Living in Canada, Robertson screws are abundant and preferred. A black clip makes it just as matchy match as the Captain.

You can also see some other micro mod work: the blade exchanger.
A slot was milled out of the top part to make it OHO and some jimping for no reason.

Ok, NOW I am ready to take apart our belongings, move across the country and look good while doing it.

Hack on!

Since your first post on this, I was watching attentively. I just couldn't see in my mind's eye how the Surge would look.

Well... it looks wicked awesome. Hope that doesn't sound too '80's. I love the engraving. It's insane. And the blade exchanger is brilliant.

So....  :tu:  :salute:

Damn that's sexy as hell. I have to get me one of those pliers heads and copy this.

What's with the dual bit drivers? Seems unfair for a Surge to have two when I could mod one into a SAK.  :pok:

Update!

To make this project even more different, I snub nosed the Destructocon after successfully doing the same to my stainless Rebar.

I want to mod my surge when I get it. I want the extra bit driver. Do you know if the bit driver is the same as the wave? (I have a wave) Was it as easy as swapping the tools or did you use shims or any other mod to make it fit?

No, the bit drivers are larger on a Surge than a Wave. No shims, the handles are basically sized for a bit driver, and one flat tool.

I would like to modify my Surge's t-shank holder with a hole like on the Destructocon. I have a Dremel clone. Would you be so kind to instruct what accessories should I use for that purpose? Thank you.

I did mine with a milling machine and a 1/8" carbide bit.

You can likely do it with a dremel, but you need to make a hole first. I think you can use one of those carbide burrs to make a hole and then the diamond bits to make the hole bigger and shape it.
