Swisstool X new but with loose pliers
on: February 01, 2020, 10:15:02 AM
Hi MT folks, I have just received a new SwissTool X and it has loose pliers, really, really loose pliers. I am a bit of a SwissTool fan and not so long ago I bought a Spirit, the pliers were nice and tight, way back I when I bought my first SwissTool (now called a 1, but the only version Vic made back then) the pliers were nice and tight.  This new one feels like it has several years of wear on it, but is straight out of the box. There is no wear on the plier teeth or the tools so it would genuinely seem to be "new".

Has anyone bought a SwissTool recently and found the same thing, or have I just got a "Monday morning" job?

I have contacted the company I bought it from and am sending it back.

Thank you, it certainly does not seem "right" to me for a new tool to be loose like that  :tu:

Wigly loose? Or tight like LM plier heads?

My Spirit XC is not tight out of the box... loose, but not wigly loose... just smooth... feels like precision...

Wiggly loose but not with lateral play. Really, really loose.  I have a ten year+ old SwissTool 1 that is used very regularly and that very well used one is tighter than the new one.

I had a Spirit that had loose pliers so it's not unheard of .

Glad you were able to return it   :tu:

Considering the number of tools Vic produces per year a few are sure to slip through the cracks.   It's a good thing Vic sets high standards with their retailers as well as their tools.  Sure makes it easier to be a return customer.

Now sounds like you'll be needing to break in a new Swisstoll X just in time to join in The MARCH SWISSTOOL MADNESS Challenge  :pok: :pok:

That sure sounds like a Monday morning job. I hope the replacement is better.

I just bought a SwissTool CSPlus kit and my pliers swing open with ease but there is no play in the pliers. Usually when I get a Wave the pliers have to be forced open they are so tight.

Just checked my other two STs and they are equally easy to open, like no resistance whatsoever. Spirit too. Also no plier wiggle that I can tell.
