There are a few ways to tell the difference, but the easiest is to look for the lock releases at the end of the handle.

You can see the button at the sides of the base of the handle, and you can also see the little cutouts where they go in beside the smaller handle screws.

Like Max says, the lock releases and the bit drivers are the easy giveaway.

Both the tools are being sold by different guys that got duplicate Christmas gifts. Brand spanking new tools at half the price. Where I too buy them in a store here in Norway they would have cost me like 280$

The easiest way to tell a New Wave and a Classic Wave apart is by looking at the knife blades.. Is the Charge an AL or ALX?

Nope there is two old waves. and 2 new waves. I dont know the diff on the new waves off hand but seeing picks of peoples there are. As for the two old waves they polished the bolsters on the old old and have no safety for the blade opening with pliers opened, and the old wave has notches in the serr blade top and the safety for the bades.

John is right about the Old Waves though, there is indeed an "old" and a "new".

1) Notching was added to the back of the serrated blade, apparently so it could be identified without looking.

2) A little forked clip was added to the channel in both handles. It is not a safety device though, as some current Leathermans have. Instead it seems to be there for the plier head to "wedge" against as it reaches the fully open position. Maybe it is built from harder material, and therefore resists wear better?

Below on the left is an "old" Old Wave. On the right is a "new" Old Wave (black 20th Anniversary). You can see the little forked clip.

Below is of the backsides, showing the rivet that holds the clip. Also note differences in the plier pivot area.

I have exactly what you have in the pic there Bob. an Old Old SS and a New Old 20th Anniversary model.

I had actually noticed the notching on the serrated blade, but maybe assumed it was just the 20th Anniversary model that had it. (They're the only 2 I have, so not easy to draw too many conclusions).

Now we need to sort out the 2 different "New" Waves mentioned.
